The Guild

The Guild
“The Guild” is my baby, I’ll say it shamelessly. Sometimes I still can’t believe that I created the idea for this web show, wrote down the words, wonderful people gathered together to make it, and now strangers quote the lines back at me. It sometimes hits me as surreal. Certainly no one could have predicted that a life-long addiction to role-playing games could provide the material to sustain a show that has, to this date, garnered over 12 million hits on the internet. The mantra “write what you know” is truer than anyone gives it credit for, so if you are looking to create a web show of your own, please don’t make it about a bunch of funny and attractive white people who trade quips in an urban coffee shop. You know you have a more original story to tell. (Watch someone make a web show about just that and get 13 million hits just to spite me. Whatever.)
The Guild

The thing that makes me most grateful is that so many incredibly talented people have contributed their skills and vision to make it something I never could have imagined in the beginning: My producer Kim Evey had the idea to make “The Guild” a web show, not a TV pilot; all the actors worked for free over a year, no complaints; Donors gave money through Paypal to continue season 1 because we couldn’t afford to fund shooting ourselves; A fan named Andrew Gleason donated an apartment complex to make season 2 happen because we lost Codex’s location; I drafted an artist (Matthew Brackney) who randomly made a piece of fan art of the characters, to reanimate the opening credits for season 2; Dani Figueiredo from Brazil made Portuguese and English subtitles and helped open our videos to the world….the list could be a mile longer. That’s why I love film making, it’s a truly collaborative art form. Well, web video is even MORE collaborative, which I couldn’t be happier about.

The Guild Season 1 on DVD
Also, the deal I made with Xbox / Microsoft to fund and distribute Season 2 of “The Guild” is also something that I’m very proud of. We held out over a year, turning down dozens of offers for the show, because I was adamant that I keep the rights to the show (definitely not the norm in Hollywood). After my experience with “Dr. Horrible” and seeing Joss stay independent and outside the system and then make it a web phenomenon, I was even more determined to stick to my guns. I got nervous a few times when I turned down a deal, I admit, and we actually started shooting Season 2 out of our pockets on the proceeds from the Season 1 DVD, but Xbox came in at exactly the right moment, with exactly the right vision and support to make the rest of Season 2 a reality. Not many corporations think outside the box like that, especially of that size. I’d say it was fate, but I’m not superstitious like that. Well, maybe a little.

If you haven’t watched “The Guild”, please check out the official website, where you can read information on the cast and crew, watch the episodes, and connect with other fans of the show on the community site.

I absolutely love The Guild…damn, only two comments and already there is repetition…I stumbled across it while searching for the “girl in the cougar cellphone commercial”…one of the best things I have found while doing random web searches. And, of course, that led
to Dr. Horrible (NPH was great on SNL, when are you going to host?) and this website.
    Great work, keep it up.

This series is wonderfully done, the awkwardness and isolation the characters portray is very well done. Felicia, brilliant work as Cyd and as Penny in Dr. Horrible.
Thoroughly glad I found this series. Keep up the great work.

    Hey Felicia

Really enjoying Season 2 of The Guild!

You and all the talented folk you work with are heroes in my part of the World (York, England). We’ve been really inspired by The Guild and Dr. Horrible, not to mention other online shows like Clark & Michael and Homestar Runner (seen those?), to create our own web series Zomblogalypse.

It’s fascinating building an audience and developing the website and concept, and we’re certainly taking cues from you about how to tirelessly promote the series! I reckon the future’s never looked brighter for low-budget, fiercely independent filmmakers. Keep up the good work.

    Lots of love xxx

Great job capturing the whole uber-gamer lifestyle and the stuggle to break free of it!

    January 26th 2009 @ 11:22 PM

Lovin’ The Guild. It captures gaming personas so perfectly it’s hilarious. You’re awesome on the violin. I’ve been playing since I was 4, but I’m nowhere near your level lol. It’s cool you’re from Huntsville, AL. I’m from a small town in southern AL called Brewton. Anyway, keep up the good work on The Guild. Can’t wait for the next episodes.

    January 27th 2009 @ 3:37 AM

‘The Guild’ is addictive!! I hope there’ll be another season soon (:

    January 28th 2009 @ 5:41 PM

I’ve been forced to fully embrace my dorkdom thanks to your show. Claiming it as my absolute favorite show and relating on some level to each character kinda booted me from the gamer geek closet. It really is fantastic!

    January 30th 2009 @ 11:43 AM

The Guild is the best web series out there right now. Not that there aren’t many great ones including legend of Neil but you’ve just made this perfect.

Any idea when I will be able to download it on xbox again? Apparently you can’t in Canada anymore so I have to watch it on msn video.

Either way please keep up the good work and I cannot wait to see where the rest of the season goes!

    January 30th 2009 @ 2:03 PM

The Guild is really awesome! I really enjoy watching it, is really fun to see the esasperated characteristics of this small ipothetic group of nerds :D I really hope that this project would go forward for many seasons!

-hope that i didn’t make too many grammatical errors…-

    Hey Miss Day,

Saw you on Captin Horrible and recognised you from numerous places.

Just started watching “The Guild” as I wasn’t expecting much from a web program, but its blown me away.

You have a fantastic sense of humour, and dry wit. I thought only people over here in the UK used Sarcasm as the highest form of wit!!

I have no watched all the episodes and will continue to follow your efforts. Thanks again for taking the time to produce it.

May I also be as rude to ask what your real hair colour is? It your hair really is that red I’m amazed, its so vibrant!! You wouldn’t think I was a straight male would you!!

    With Regards

    Jd

    February 10th 2009 @ 8:09 AM

The Guild is the most scary webshow ever. Too much of it seems true (and self-experienced). Love it, recommending it to friends and guildies ;o))

Thank you for making life more fun!

zug-zug, back to work. stop poking me.

    February 11th 2009 @ 6:24 PM

Funny and cute show you’ve created :) I’ve played WoW a bit and I’m a big fan of Joss Whedon, so this is right up my alley. P.S. I really admire you and your whole creative team for maintaining creative independence.

P.P.S. Your facial expressions are adorable, Felicia.

Not sure if this has already been asked…but I was wondering if there may be any gay characters in the future?

    February 17th 2009 @ 8:58 PM

One of my friends showed mr the first episode of the guild and i became instantly hooked i immediately got on my xbox and downloaded all of the episodes and watched them. im not a big fan of MMORPG’s but the story behind the guild is amazing. im a huge gamer tho i mostly play shooters but i find it very entertaining to see the surrealness of the series. im glad u decided to keep the film independent 2 alot of times the Hollywood scene seems to ruin some movies and tv programs. after seeing the ending of season 2 it just makes me anticipate season 3 so much. very good work its nice to see the awesome creativity and brilliant minds working on an independent web show. thank you so much for your tremendous contribution to the gaming world.

p.s i know someone already asked but are u a gamer yourself. if so that would be awesome. i always respect female gamers :)

    \m/(-_-)\m/ ROCK ON!!!!!

I absolutely love The Guild. I found it after watching Doctor Horrible, and I watched the entire first season in one day. It is fabulous, and very dramatic. There are parts of it that literally have me on the edge of my seat. It is an ultimate show for gamers, or anyone who enjoys action, humor, and slightly… ::cough:: psychotic ::cough:: romance, and I can’t wait to see more. Kudos!

    March 15th 2009 @ 8:52 AM

    March 23rd 2009 @ 1:34 PM

You should do a real webcam blog like on the show.

    March 25th 2009 @ 1:19 PM

I found out that a cousin of mine recently started a webshow similar to yours. She’s an actress/writer, like yourself, and has a web series called The Actor Diaries that pokes fun at her acting career. The humor’s similar. I think you’d enjoy it.

    April 8th 2009 @ 9:49 PM

I just wanted to say that i found out about the guild a few months ago… someone was talking in vent about how people’s personalities matched their class choice, (mine doesn’t, and I dont feel that there are very many who’s do…) but i watched one episode and I must say you’ve done an excellent job with that theme. The show is hilarious, and your characters’ personalities are really strong. when is season 3 coming? i’m seriously holding my breath so hurry up!

    April 10th 2009 @ 4:38 AM

Much love for the guild from across the pond… I’m from england (Sheffield) and me and my mates love the show. looking forwards to new episodes! :D

    April 24th 2009 @ 12:43 PM

One evening I was looking up some things for an MMORPG game that I play, Guild Wars, and I came up to the website, The Guild. I love it, and for a while I thought I was the only one who knew that the show existed, but then again, I’m one of the few people who play GW in my area. Well I met a few guildies who know about the show and I was pretty stoked that I could talk to someone about your show. My wife and I just finished all the episodes, and we enjoy it so much due to the fact that our lives almost match the movie. :P

Keep doing what your doing and cant wait for season 3 to come out!
    an emot for ya:
    /cheers
    /clap

    April 25th 2009 @ 12:57 AM

    Loving it!

Hope season 2 will be on iTunes for UK – will gladly pay for it, another revenue stream for you?

And yes, I’m a gamer :) Darkmoon Faire EU FTW!

    May 4th 2009 @ 12:32 PM

There’s something humorous about saying the people at xbox “think outside the box,” but I’m too tired to figure out what it implies.

    May 5th 2009 @ 11:18 AM

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the Guild. I have watched both seasons now, and felt gutted that there was no season 3. I heard the next day after I finished the last of season 2 that Microsoft came through and there would be a season three. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it. I just recently got a computer for home use, and the Guild is the only web show I have watched. Thanks, and good luck with season three.

    May 6th 2009 @ 9:21 PM

Ahhh…the angst, tha pain, the anger, the joy…the ridicolous and still fantastic parallell life as an elf or whatever wonderfully captured.

“funny and attractive white people who trade quips in an urban coffee shop.”

Wouldn’t this concept generally suck, regardless of the color of the people? I like your work, please stay away from such low-brow commentary.

    May 25th 2009 @ 2:11 AM

    @chuck

    Chip, shoulder, much?

Obviously a thinly-veiled description of ‘Friends’ and its many copyists, not racial commentary.

    May 22nd 2009 @ 3:50 PM

Love watching the Guild. While watching I noticed you look really cute with your hair up. You should do a photo shoot with a pony tail. You also have a cute butt, I just gotta say.

    May 25th 2009 @ 1:06 AM

I just finished reading this- http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/05/felicia-day-the.html

“TV has to please everybody to make a show, the Web needs to be the opposite.”

Thanks for saying that, it just solidified something that I’ve been writing for the last 5 years. Now that I have this in mind I can finish writing it, hijack others to make it, and get it on film.

    Thanks Miss Day

    May 25th 2009 @ 10:09 PM

I’m so happy that I stumbled across The Guild on XBox Live! I love you Codex :D

lol yah gives a wow and guild wars junky somthing to watch during server down time lol

    June 8th 2009 @ 6:42 AM

I blame you for this. I have said no more than once to joining twitter and facebook and anything else social networking related…but I started watching the guild last week, bought the dvds 2 days later, joined the official web site a few days after that and now…I’m actually thinking about joining twitter. so you can add that to the list:

@feliciaday makes me want to twitter.

I haven’t joined yet. I’m going to try to hold out for another year. Or until season 3 is released, whichever comes first. God.

P.S. Go you! Keep those Guild rights, woman!

“If it worked as comedy, let’s try it as action!” HollywoodThink

    <blockquote>
DreamWorks, Masi Oka Give Avatars Top Billing
Avatars will play a major role in the upcoming feature film project from Heroes star Masi Oka and Hollywood production studio DreamWorks. Reportedly, the plot centers on a group of teenagers who initially link up in the metaverse via their avatars. The story, conceived of by Oka, then moves back to the real world where the teens are tested to see just how strong their online relationships are. Defenders, the working title of the project, is termed a “family adventure” by The Hollywood Reporter. D.J. Caruso is slated to direct while game journalist Gary Whitta will pen the script. Speaking with the Reporter, Oka said of the movie’s inspiration: “You can be whoever you want to be [online],” he said. “The question came to me: What if you had to live up to the person you created in the virtual world?”
    >/blockquote>

And where have we seen that idea lately?

    June 14th 2009 @ 12:36 PM

Well, I just have to say it: Not that funny and not that clever. I dunno, I guess if you’re a WoW nerd, there’s probably some humor there for you. Still, not that original, but hey, bandwagon jumpers will jump on anything.

    June 15th 2009 @ 7:38 AM

Someone jumped me at VirtualWorldNews with the comment that this idea has played out in comic books for years. True enough but also flatworld thinking (infinite regress is not a valid argument). The trick of recycling is to find the new twist. This movie would be the old twist. What Felicia and crew managed was to find the realities of the online life in virtuality and reveal the humor in the pain. It is a bit like Buffy in that regard. The secrets are a strong ensemble and inventive comedic performance. I suspect she gets a lot from the improv skills. If one takes the same theme and keeps it action and slathers on boatloads of CGI, they get StarDreck: The Rebranding and it becomes one dimensional. The direction Felicia took was/is inventive comedically and production-wise. Like Brit-sci-fi in the early days of Doctor Who, she is relying on the writing and acting instead of post and effects.

I’m not a big Guild fan (not my gen). I have a lot of respect for what they are accomplishing outside the Hollyweird system and in terms of taking the new distribution and production models and wringing good stories out of them. It’s the early days of radio plays. Her crew will develop through many projects and become a power unto themselves. Look at Serenity and notice how the Whedon tribe evolved through Buffy et al and can now produce anything they can conceive and it will always be high quality even when not spot-on-zeitgeist (eg, Dollhouse). That is true of every art production dynasty. You see the same players, recurrent themes, etc. Odd example but illustrative, look at what John Wayne, Huston et al did from the b-westerns up to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. They developed both the team and the themes and by the time they get to Valance, they are doing it effortlessly even as they turned the whole genre on its head.

    “Life’s a long song.”

    June 15th 2009 @ 6:47 PM

What on earth are you talking about?

The idea of exploring the relationship between people’s created personas online vs who they are in the “real world” has been done plenty of times. Heck, Snow Crash predates the web. It wouldn’t be shocking for others to explore the same territory. It’s a broad topic and increasingly relevant to people’s day to day experiences.

A web comedy based on stereotypes of MMO players whose life centers around the game? That’s more original. More importantly, it’s really funny. Probably less so if you don’t get what’s being alluded to, but still amusing. It’s a niche production. Good times.

Sure, The Guild is on the edge of an emerging shift in production and distribution of content we’ll see more of in the future, but let’s not overthink it here. It’s a shortform sitcom made on the cheap and distributed via the web and marketed to its natural audience. Yay for Felicia. I hope this provides training ground for future successes. But there’s no need to go off the deep end here. That’s just the crazy talking.

In summary, Jeff Lewis is hilarious.

    June 16th 2009 @ 3:24 AM

I have to say that The Guild can be very funny to people outside its niche audience. I have never been a gamer, moderate CP ensured truly lousy hand-eye co-ordination and motor skills. I am also not a geek, although I’ve been around enough of them to understand the world a bit. So in summary, if a 40+ male with no experience of the gaming world (excepting the old Infocon text-based games like The Hitch Hiker’s Guide on a c64) and only a tangential connexion to geekdom can still find The Guild to be one of the funniest shows out there, that speaks volumes for the quality of the writing. Felicia “wrote what she knows” and did such a good job of it that even those of us who don’t know that world as intimately as she does can still be hugely entertained by her work. Bravissima!

    June 16th 2009 @ 5:34 AM

@EA: That she is smart, talented, funny and a tad insecure but in an environment where all of that rounds out to success. Take your head out of that jealous dark place and applaud the winner. You’ll feel better. There is no deep end in a shallow pool.

What Stuart said. I’m a lifer in the comp-sci game from before most here and I think The Guild is funny and insightful. There is a backlash to success and some of it is coming her way. I’m not a big fan because I’ve other things to do not because it isn’t good work. As an analyst I keep up with the events that change the way we use the web. As a native Huntsvillian, I also root for the home team.

    June 16th 2009 @ 6:17 AM

Jealous of what exactly Len? The only thing I was critical of was your awkwardly written overanalysis. The artistic dynasty comments were over the top. If I’m guilty of anything, it’s not being nice and choosing to remain silent.

I think The Guild is a high quality show. I was complimentary of it. It’s the reason I’m posting on this blog.

I think the show best appeals to a niche audience that actually gets what’s being alluded to. How could it not? They’re plenty of jokes that rest of knowledge of MMORPG gameplay and players. I think it still can be funny outside of that, but it probably will be generally less so for that audience.

    If this constitutes backlash, wow.

On an aside, you could watch both seasons pretty fast. Not that you aren’t captain awesome and so busy with awesome things you don’t have time to watch shows you find funny and insightful, but if your schedule clears up a little it’ll take less time to watch every episode than it would to watch a movie. I mean, you are posting on a blog about it.

    June 16th 2009 @ 7:42 AM

    Nice try. I’m snarkproof.

Art dynasties exist because people create them out of their work and social networks. They can become powerful as was the case with John Wayne. That example is given as it began in the Republic Studios but spans his entire career and included some of the most successful persons in the industry. As she notes, The Guild will come to a natural end and then her projects as an independent producer may rely as The Guild has on that network. She lists forward looking projects that indicate to me at least that she is thinking beyond sketch-based comedy and even linear art. Smart.

Success builds on success. In any success there are those who climb aboard just in time to get a little of the limelight, then there are those who can’t live with just a little and begin to crab. If one is even a little insecure, those people are to a career what water is to erosion. As someone said to me once, “It’s all about your mates.”

“The brightest moments career wise, I was the target of people around who were there because of the elusive glow that lures them with promises of warmth and better things. But at its very epicenter—where the star stands—there is nothing.” Melanie Safka

She dissed her focus on her grades. While the actual coursework may not be that valuable, she may find out that the iron discipline she acquired has a very high value later regards identity maintenance, or plain old keeping her wits. I’m a bit long in the tooth myself to be overcome by her looks, but I find her spirit, nerve and tenacity to be irresistable. I hope she hangs on to those. She will need them.

    June 19th 2009 @ 4:48 PM

“She dissed her focus on her grades. While the actual coursework may not be that valuable, she may find out that the iron discipline she acquired” that was exactly what atruck me too. I have the ambition, drive and iron self-discipline of a comatose sloth, but Felicia’s rigorous self-motivation to do well in whatever she does is impressive, particularly because it appears untainted with the frequent corollary attitude of narcissistic arrogance.

    June 23rd 2009 @ 2:24 AM

I absolutely love this web series. I really makes me smile, and since I gave up World of Warcraft not, but a year ago I can really relate to the subject. Your main character reminds me a lot of myself in a weird sort of way.

I normally don’t post things but I felt I should. Keep up the good work.

    Gday Felicia,

I re-downloaded all The Guild episodes yesterday (via LIVE) to watch em all again, beginning to end… ok, it was also partially to spite my ISP.

Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed it (again) – love the character interaction and those little ‘webcam’ starts you do really stand out as you flex your expressive/artistic muscle (OK, that sounds dirty/wrong now that I reread it).

I’m a musician but you guys look like you’re having a great time making the show – it’s convinced me I have to at least try to make a web series at some stage! Got the idea, just gotta learn how to be funny now ;)

Of course, after the writing comes the whole filming stuff… one step at a time eh… think i’ll get the music going first.

I’m REALLY looking forward to season 3 – way to create anticipation with the fight episode =D

…PS… Thanks for remaining accessible to your fans… It’s a wonderful thing to do….

    Peace & Love,

    Daniel

I love the groundbreaking nature of the series and the dry wit, but the thing that really blew my mind was when you busted out Mendelssohn’s violin concerto in S2E05. I had to back it up and watch it half a dozen times to decide if you were actually playing it. This was before I discovered that you were a music major in college. I’m a violinist and an actor myself, so I was pretty excited to see someone else combining the same pair of skills. Where else can I see or hear you performing on the violin? I vote for more of that.

    July 9th 2009 @ 7:34 AM

The short violin bit was awesome. Throwing up on the stunt guys shirt, not so awesome.

Men are tools. Sears sells them in the Craftsmen aisle.

Something for the classicists who like funeral music:

    http://home.hiwaay.net/~cbullard/mp3/DomineIesu.mp3

    Gotta love the Melodyne plugin.

Maybe a YouTube of Day playing a complete violin solo sans The Guild could be a Christmas present to the fans.

Bloody steroids and benadryl: sleep all afternoon, up all night. Chemo sucks.

Possibly inappropriate for a fan blog, but one thought: in a relationship where men are tools, women are appliances. See ya at Sears.

So one of my best friends sent me the link to The Guild and I instantly fell in love.
Then, of course I had to show it to my mom and brother because we sadly all play WOW.
In a span of less than 24 hours we’ve managed to watch season 1 three times and season 2 twice.
(Our WOW was down so we watched The Guild lol)
Now, the mother and brother are on a mission to tell everyone in their guilds and on their friends list to watch The Guild.
    :)

Well here is the answer to who would you never want on your WoW guild team:

    http://www.raphkoster.com/2009/07/31/wow-addiction-therapy-guild/

Shrinks are playing the game as a way to help the game addicts.

Fascinating. Now Codex’s shrink has to put in an appearance in the game. That has plot potential. Would she have to combat the evil shrink alone or would her guild mates help her or hurt her or both?

    August 5th 2009 @ 12:07 PM

OMG – Love The Guild – Love you & all the cast!! I swear, we’ve got Bladezz brother in my WoW guild.

Your sense of humor transcends all platforms of gaming – I ROFLMAO’d at Tall Hot Girl’s response to Codex’s admission to RP gaming vs. console gaming.

Anyway – can’t wait for S3… would have LOVED to been @ Comic Con this year to see you guys. Ah well, there’s always ‘10.

Keep up the incredible work!! I’ll be perched on my couch on 8/25 to catch the 1st webisode on X Live.

    gurl gamerz 4evah!!

    August 19th 2009 @ 10:50 PM

    August 21st 2009 @ 9:46 PM

gamer chicks are hott(thought i would get that out of the way first).
The guild is awesome and i really liked your work in dr. horrible’s sing along blog. i gotta ask which character you would prefer to be, penny or codex?

    August 25th 2009 @ 7:08 AM

    Miss Day,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. How many more times can I say before it gets old? What I mean is thank you for bringing your story out and sharing it with people. There are too many critical people out there who do not realize how much a game, especially one that is very socially advanced like a MMORPG, can draw a person in. At first its a break away from the norm, but then you make friends, meet people in-game that you can connect with on a more substantial level, and you’re hooked.

I have always been a big RP game player, I kept it under wraps, a closet nerd. For many years I avoided WoW, I didn’t want to fall into that category, but eventually, I tried it, just the 10 day trial, and that’s all it took. Now I am an avid player, and I truly understand how games like this can take over a person, slowly pull them out of RL situations and into an in-game world.

I love the game, I can’t deny it, and I love that more people are stepping out and bringing to light that there are gamers everywhere, its not always some 40-year-old man living with his parents, we come in all shapes and sizes, from all kinds of social circles, and with all kinds of expectations.

I love your show, it is hilarious, I have never enjoyed a web show as I have yours. Maybe only gamers can relate to the wit, or see the humor in some of the situations, oh well, there are a lot more of us out there then people realize.

Oh, and “Do you want to Day my Avatar” is my favorite song of the year, right up there with the ROFLMAO! song. Can’t wait for season 3, just wish the episodes were longer lol.

    August 25th 2009 @ 8:58 AM

When does the next episode for season 3 come out? I’m like getting really into The Guild.

    August 25th 2009 @ 5:18 PM

Felicia!! grats on such an awesome show! I love your simplicity!

    August 27th 2009 @ 11:38 PM

Thank you for creating The Guild. It still entertains me to this day. Also, Do You Want To Date My Avatar has been stuck in my head for days now. Best of luck to you and all of your projects.

    August 28th 2009 @ 7:55 PM

I am playing 1 vs 100 while you are co-hosting I must say you have a nice voice but this game is a piss off lol

    Thanks for the guild felicia!
What I wanted to ask is; where is the guild episode 108 on xbox live? THat’s where I stopped but I cant find it any further.

    August 30th 2009 @ 7:10 AM

I love the show and your really pretty, I would love to find out how to be an extra on the guild its great:)

    September 1st 2009 @ 1:40 PM

I love “Do You Want To Date My Avatar” beyond all belief! I had heard of your web series beforehand, but never got around to watching them.

I saw the music video the night before we were leaving for BlizzCon and after curiously checking out the first episode was instantly addicted. Pack socks, watch season one episode six. Pack a t-shirt, watch season two episode seven.

You were great at BlizzCon by the way. Infectiously funny and charming.

I play your video all the time. So much that my husband thinks I have a problem :)

    September 1st 2009 @ 8:39 PM

I just watched the new episode of season 3 and I thought it was a great way to begin the third season. Can’t wait for the rest. Keep up the good work!!!!

    September 6th 2009 @ 8:46 PM

    Hey Felicia,

Right now I’m a senior in college majoring in Theater, Film and Dance and I’m currently in senior seminar where one of the assignments is to pick diferent performing artists that are inspirations to us and you’re one of the people on my list. Some people laugh at that but knowing how you started The Guild gives me hope for the very dark future ahead of me at the moment. If you have any hints or cheat codes I can borrow for life I’d be more than willing to write it down. Keep up the good work and looking forward for the rest of season three.

    September 7th 2009 @ 7:14 PM

You should have people made into avatars that send in pics of themselves :D but yeah hilarious show.

    September 8th 2009 @ 10:14 AM

I just found out about The Guild after watching Dr. Horrible, so I had to watch it all. This is a great show. Feliciais a comedic genius.
    Looking forward to more episodes.
    Break Legs

    September 12th 2009 @ 10:59 PM

Congrats on this, Felicia: “and now strangers quote the lines back at me.” As an aspiring screenwriter I commend you on this! What an awesome feeling it must be to hear the words you’ve written performed and then quoted by fans! I’m still working towards my big break into the biz. Though, my genres are romance & drama. :D

    September 14th 2009 @ 4:11 AM

To be honest i never heard of this show until i saw it on my xbox. I was wondering what it was about and though i will just download one episode and see how it goes. I was hooked straight away and downloaded as many episodes as i could. Great characters and great stories.

    September 14th 2009 @ 12:52 PM

    September 14th 2009 @ 10:31 PM

Felicia you guys rock it with The Guild. I only found it a couple of days ago but I am now caught up and I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Way to nail it and the show gets better with every new one that comes out.

    Keep them comming Gilrlie.

    September 17th 2009 @ 12:14 PM

Really a great job! I’m an old MMO player so i appreciated so much by the grotesque which often occur within a guild. Really funny!

And i think Felicia is a great actress, and great singer too!

    Giacomo from Italy!!!

    September 19th 2009 @ 1:55 PM

    September 21st 2009 @ 1:34 PM

    September 26th 2009 @ 7:50 AM

Felicia! The Guild is amazing, and I was beyond thrilled to see you and the cast of Dr. Horrible at the Emmy awards. Hooray for smart, talented writers/performers like you! Not to mention you’re cuter than a basket of kittens. Keep up the amazing work!

    September 29th 2009 @ 2:11 AM

Haha, thank Goodness for StumbleUpon! I found the song “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?” on youtube, and decided to see what The Guild was all about. Well, needless to say, I am hooked! I watched all the episodes (and had that song stuck in my head) all day! Thanks for the show, its nice to have game stuff to do when you are away from the game (which i just lost). Thanks again!

    Zell

    September 29th 2009 @ 2:58 AM

    Hello!
I just finished watching episode 5 and truly appreciated the humor (it will sustain me through my crap job today). Lord Bolio needs to make a return appearance – and is there any way you can persuade Jinx to make a “Fops are Creepy” shirt? I’ll wave an Andrew Jackson at that one in no time flat.
The series is amazing and inspired…I’m looking forward to seeing how the current season plays out.
    Best regards.

    September 29th 2009 @ 11:22 PM

    Hi!

I’m wondering if anyone else has pointed out that your song “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar” (2009) is hauntingly similar in theme to The Kimberly Trip’s tune “I Wanna Date Your Avatar” (from “Popularity Contest”; Glitter Kitty Records, 2007). Just curious!

    September 30th 2009 @ 1:17 AM

    D.P.M. the songs don’t sound alike…

    But the tittles look similar.

Nice way to promote the kimberly trips there. ;)

    October 1st 2009 @ 12:17 AM

I never said the songs sound similar, Mike…I said the title is hauntingly similar. You must agree that it’s a strong coincidence. And I didn’t say it to promote anyone’s band…

    October 1st 2009 @ 12:59 AM

Theres quite a few songs out thier with similar titles to them.

And mentioning a band on a well read blog is somewhat akin to promoting them, since people would wonder what your trying to say..

This does not mean its a bad thing since that band plays good tunes. In my humble opinion at least…

And you said “theme” D.P.M which could mean more then the title, since theme encompases alot.

I agree like I said thier is a coincidence in the title, but this is not the first time in music history that this sort of thing has happened..

    October 1st 2009 @ 9:16 AM

Hmmm….giving the info on the band does help promote them, you are correct. I was just stating that it wasn’t my intention to promote them. Who knows…they may be jerks! ha

I know you can’t copyright a title, or lyrical theme…but it just seems like a really odd coincidence, to have such an original and unique title and lyrical theme show up twice. That was my only point…..

    October 15th 2009 @ 11:02 AM

    The Guild is fantastic.
All the characters are great and the tory keep me wanting for more.
Lte me say that “Do you wanna date my avatar?”, its AWESOME.
I laugh every time i watch it, and every time i am amzed not only by your voice, but with your beautiful eyes!!!

    You are so beautiful!!!

Thx for all the fun, your work is great and you are extremely funny.

    October 25th 2009 @ 2:03 PM

The Guild is an awesome show!! Nevermind the hilarious WoW references, but you guys have written the show really well! I sorta miss the old days of episodes clearly shot with handheld cameras instead of tripods…but hey, now that you guys have funding you can do a whole lotta stuff with the series! Good luck!

    November 1st 2009 @ 10:21 PM

Dang, 12 Million hits in 3 years. That’s amazing, but me. I’ve directed 3 feature lenth movies with minimal success, and a little name reconizition. I saw the music video and your apperance at E3. This hole thing that Xbox is going to have with Facebook and Twitter. You said something in this articale about making your own web series and going for 13 Million hits but I guess you’ll reach 13 Million before anyone else does. I plan on shooting a pilot episode for my own web series, the way your’s started was a bit suttle but mine is going to start with a bang, and believe me I know what I’m doing. I’m playing with fire with this script that I wrote and my brother who also watches your show says “there is no way people will avoid this.”

    November 5th 2009 @ 3:44 AM

Writing about what you know has proven you right with the Guild.

Reflecting my own experiences in gaming online and the dubious pleasures of gamer guilds, all I can say is: You hit it!

Please don’t stop, for as long as you can manage: Please keep it up!

    Thank you

    November 8th 2009 @ 9:51 PM

I just wanted to tell you that me and my friends love your project. We are a WoW Guild and you did a perfect parody of the stuff that happens in MMORPG’s.

    Best wishes from Germany

    November 9th 2009 @ 2:24 PM

I have a few things to say. Most are good lol. I love the guild it has kept me occupied for the past week lol and gave me a new song to listen to lol. While i was watching i was thinking this is a cool idea and it is REALLY original cause i dont think theres many to any at all like it. I do have one down side, kinda, I thought this was a group of 6 people who played MMOs all day and night and they were all friends so one day they came up with the idea to start a web series. When i found out that you all were actors and only some of yo actually play the game loses some of its relate ability. Even tho its not 100% relate able, I still enjoy watching very episode that comes out.

    November 11th 2009 @ 5:45 PM

Falicia Day, you are the best actor ever. you are so funny. Also the guild is my favorite series or onythiing that you are in. i will always follow your acting and the guild. cant w8 till season3 episode 11. also i play wow 2 :)

    November 13th 2009 @ 11:11 AM

I think you are a genius. The Guild is proof that Hollywood doesn’t know what its doing keeping you in the margins.

    November 19th 2009 @ 8:44 PM

I love this show and have turned many people into Guildies. Great concept and excellent work.

    November 22nd 2009 @ 10:13 PM

    Felicia –

Thank you so much for producing this. I really like how you kept this as a grassroots project in the beginning and still currently retain the rights to your project.

It is a wonderfully unique idea that lets others know about the huge online gaming community. It’s been a blast to watch and laugh-out-loud at each episode.

Your fan base is huge, and I can relate to the characters. Keep up the great work. I’m looking forward to the next episode!

    November 24th 2009 @ 7:53 PM

Just got done watching S3 Final episode…was AWESOME! The ending was great (amongst other things)
I hope there will be a season 4, as my finance and I both really enjoyed the series (still re-watch S1 & 2).
(also just found / watched The Legion of Neil…also funny, and was interesting to see such a different character from Sid AKA Codex :) But was sad at how short the whole series were [both 1 &2, and @ ending] :( )

    December 8th 2009 @ 12:19 AM

    Felicia -

I normally don’t post on actor’s websites, but I just couldn’t help myself

I was recently turned on to The Guild by my MMO friends (I am an avid FFXI player) and I must say it is truly a great show!!! I just finished watching all 3 seasons and hope to see many more. Watching this show has made me realize the fact that I too am addicted to MMO’s, (JK, I already knew) and I don’t give a damn! LOL! This show naturally brought me to the effinfunny site and The Legend of Neil, which I have enjoyed and hope to see more of in the future as well.

I too am a HUGE sci-fi fan and was surprised to find out that you were in a few episodes of Buffy TVS, which is one of my all-time fave shows. Guess I’ll have to go back and watch those again, as I think u are truly a very talented actor/comedian, (your body and facial expressions are priceless… the song in TLoN “The Musical” come to mind) singer AND musician. I have played guitar 30+ years and can tell just from the few notes u play in the guild ep that you have plenty of talent in that field as well. Being a music producer, I believe I have a pretty good ear for talent, and girl u definitely got it goin on!!! I have no doubt that you will have a long and prosperous career.

All that being said, I wanted to say thanks for the inspiration, as I have both always wanted to learn to play the violin AND possibly do a web series of my own someday when and if I can ever find the time.

And lastly, thanks for the laughs! Keep up the good work!!!

    December 9th 2009 @ 10:01 AM

I really enjoy The Guild. I’ve found myself looking forward to Tuesdays and each new episode. It’s been a big part of me embracing my geekiness. Looking forward to Season 4. BTW, I don’t know if you need untalented, peon volunteers, but my summers are free.:-)

    December 15th 2009 @ 8:15 AM

Hey I think it’s really cool that your from Huntsville because that’s where I live! If you ever come back into town I hope you announce it or send me an email or something, I’d love to get your autograph and chat for a bit. The show is great! Keep up the good work!

    -Max

    December 15th 2009 @ 9:50 PM

Love the show Keep em coming!
Really like your outlook on things you said many times in various interviews and such about being rejected for various reason from acting parts etc (probably could of said that better) and instead where most would of given up you went and did your own thing and it’s a great sucess.

That is really inspiring to me and I bet many others. Not that I’m in the same line of work but that type of attitude toward things could help people in many situations.

    Anyways I seem to rambling.

    Good Job and good luck

    -Eddie

    Hi felicia :)

just wanted to say that the guild is amazing !!!
i started watching it a few day ago and OMG im hooked, its so funny as it kinda relates to myself ( world of warcraft player/fan for 5yrs now) i hope that u and the rest of the brilliant cast carry on making it and best of luck to u all in the future :)

i have recommended the guild to all my mates in york, England

thanks again for being so awesome

    lee

p.s i watched your “do u wanna date my avatar” video on youtube today and cant stop watching it, that song is ultra addictive .. you have a beautifull voice and i think that u and robin look amazing in your costumes and i am now in love with robin thorsen shes so pretty

    December 26th 2009 @ 6:31 AM

Love the show. Codex really captures the inner termoil of trying to figure out what to do about the people around her. The “webcam view” totally captures the expressiveness of the human face…which makes for great contrast against the MUD/MMO world where those details are mostly lost. Can totally relate (I mean about the people around me, I last played D&D in 1979 or something, so not so hip to the MMO world).

Found the show the typical internet way. The music video “Do You Want to Date My Avatar?” was shared on Facebook by a friend, watched the video a couple of times, wondered about this “Euro-technodance group” that I never heard of called “The Guild”. Thought they might be out of Holland or something. Sounded kind of like Milk, Inc. Thought it was clever that the “band members” put down their instruments for the music video and acted/danced instead. Looked for other “The Guild” music video…and found I was WAAAAAY off track.

Guess I was just a Noob. Absolutely love your work, would be a fanboi except I am a little too deep into middle-age to take that moniker.

    …Drucifer

    December 28th 2009 @ 9:50 PM

Hey, I just discovered the show today and wanted to say, “good job.” So, uh… yeah, GOOD JOB! I love it!

    December 30th 2009 @ 2:27 AM

Only a wow player could have written a show like this. You are laying our secrets bare to the world! And it is never too late to be a Felicia Day fan boy, I am 60. Granted I have been gaming longer than most of you have been alive. Even ny Atari 800 is older.

    December 30th 2009 @ 1:13 PM

Cheers! I stumbled on your Avatar song on youtube while looking for behind the scenes of the Avatar movie, ended up watching all three episodes of the Guild in a row. Great entertainment. Used to play Asheron’s Call and then later a bit of WoW. Anyway, will keep an eye out for new episodes. Good luck in the future!

    January 5th 2010 @ 6:51 AM

    Hi Felicia,

It’s almost 4am and I’m watching THE GUILD again, for the 5 time in 2 days. I think I have fallen in love with Felicia! Each time I review the show, I find more content and deeper story lines. I would like to see all the shows back 2 back without loading, so I got online to see if I could buy them, and luck was on my side. Since I’m feeling lucky now, I feel this is the best time to ask… May I take you (Felicia) out sometime? I just had to ask… you never know… just maybe you’ll be moved knowing that you have the power to make “THE” dream of mine come true. It’s a +9 to kindness, and we all could do with more of that. I hope to hear from you soon!

    Will

    January 10th 2010 @ 5:35 AM

    Felicia,

It took 3 seasons worth of episodes before a friend found this show on youtube and told me I had to check it out. I can’t explain how thankful I am for that friend, and how thankful I am that you created this web show. For once in my life I was able to identify with a character, Codex, on a daily basis on some level or another. Thank you for making it possible. =) This show ROCKS!

    -Camilla

P.S. Way to stick it out! I’m happy to read that you kept the rights to this, and didn’t sell out to a large corporation out of desperation or anything like that. Keep it going as long as you can! I’m rooting for you!

    January 12th 2010 @ 10:15 PM

    LOL
Same think happened to me, and I can’t believe it took so long to find.

I can’t wait until season 4 comes out!

    January 15th 2010 @ 11:31 PM

i been a huge fan of Felicia since Buffy and think she outdid herself with the guild

    keep up the amazing work

    January 20th 2010 @ 10:22 PM

    Hi Felicia!

Your work is amazing and I wish you all the luck in the world on your new projects!

Since I didn’t see another spot for it, I wanted to let you know that “Date my avatar” made me laugh until I cried. ^_^ Thank you for making my ribs hurt.

Best wishes and good luck! You’re beautiful! (And I mean that in a non-creepy way :) )

    January 21st 2010 @ 1:29 AM

I love you in a very creepy way.
Just FYI, you should probably be just a little scared…

    January 26th 2010 @ 5:04 AM

Hey Eric Z, you finally got tired of your lovedoll i’m guessing!!!!!

I’m sure Felicia has more important things to do than read your drivel so i’m gonna do it for her.

    Great show!

As a non-gamer, I don’t get some of it, but my wife is really into gaming so she can fill me in. I still crack up about Cheese Gouging.

Felicia, you need to make an episode involving WoW’s stoner community. In my experience, about 1 out of every 4 WoW players smoked heavily during my time. It is a very important social aspect of gaming that I think you have left out thus far.
I’m only through season 1 so far though, great show. I actually thought of a similar idea and ended up finding out this existed!

MSN is the most disorganized, obnoxious website. Hard to find videos, hard to shut off auto-play (I never did figure that one out), and videos don’t line up in chronological order. Horrible experience, but GREAT web series. This is such a “why didn’t I think of that?” concept, that I’ll be really surprised if the web doesn’t become THE primary outlet for good serial entertainment, especially independently produced.

One more thing. For god sake, PLEASE continue insisting on full control. The big media giants are dinosaurs. There is no reason why they have to monopolize entertainment anymore. The web belongs to EVERYONE (that is, until access is monopolized, sadly). Change the future NOW!

Okay, took a while to find this page… and I honestly thought I would be cool for posting a few comments that I thought were amusing (nothing offensive, of course). Unfortunately, most likely only because of the one or two drinks involved (never more for mature fellows, right?), I have accidently deleted or screwed up threads times three now. I am getting very angry. I still find punctuation important, however. Irrelevant. I wanted to talk about how awesome the show is and how I think that Felicia Day is fine, but now I am pissed.
I hate this website and it’s incessant need to screw with me (probably my own thing), Show is good, Day is hot, and I need revenge. Or just another bottle of malt liquor.
And to be honest, Everquest is WAY better. Thought that would be a fun one to start….

PS thanks for the work, Felecia
