Roommates

abc_family_logo_1

Premiering in March of 2009, this is a super-cute sitcom that will be airing on ABC Family. I was lucky enough to be hired for a 4 episode arc towards the end of the season. Sitcoms can be very nerve-wracking, it’s like doing a play in front of a live audience with cameras rolling and 20 times the pressure, but having the immediate feedback of live audience laughter is absolutely addictive (like refreshing and reading YouTube comments :) ). It’s my favorite kind of job to be hired for. My part is hilarious, the project is very fun and I can’t wait for more information to be released about the show and for my episodes to finally be on-air so everyone can enjoy!

I really love all your projects. Congratulations, you have usurped the role of geek goddess from Morgan Webb (though I still love her too… there are never enough beautiful nerd girls in the world.) Can’t wait to see what your Machinima project will be!

Something is a bit wonky with the project side bar. The “View this Project” links go to different projects than what you would assume.

    Hey Kelly -
Thanks for the tip! They’re working for me? Are they still all wonky for you?

what software are you using to build the site?

*btw, gratz on your ABC sitcom… i did stand up once, the lack of immediate laughter was good to know. So i bet actually having the performer gene and talent and everything you have, i can see how laughter would be addictive for those bitten by the acting bug.

i want to become an interviewer for some magazine or webzine, so that i could interview you and talk about your style of career launching, acting, writing directing et al that you are doing.

i think you are doing something unique and wonderful, and you should get the chance to talk about your style of who you are in your profession and your approach to your profession. using projects you are passionate about e.g. Dr. H & Neil & Guild, working with your small budget, connecting with your fans (because you get the geek-fan because you are one too), and then using technology and new frontiers of webisodes; all of which combine into a new spin of the acting profession, where you are all things & in control & out there promoting your project.

this is rambling on longer then i intended… what software do you use? congratz on your show…. the end

Just another of the hundreds of thousands of notes to say how much I admire what you have done. Your creativity and ability to DO instead of just dream is a light in the world. You are a creator, one of the best things a person can be.

I was so ready to skip over this show and write it off as a friends like ripoff… But now I’m gonna have to watch it because you’re awesome.

After hearing repeatedly how much I would enjoy Dr. Horrible, I finally saw it, and I loved it, after that, I watched The Guild. I was very impressed with both. Felicia your writing is fantastic! Can’t waot to see more of you!

I just saw you on the show last night! You were hilarious. Roomates is a really great show. We saw a preview for it at the movie theater and there was a clip with you in it so we set it up on our DVR. I am so glad we did. Keep up the great work! Oh and you should totally pursue that rapping career.

I loved you on Roommates! I haven’t finished watching all of the episodes you are in, just the first two, but you were so funny. All your body movements and quirky facial expressions really made it great. I wish the show overall was better so that more people could see you, but at least you were the shining star in it and that can only be good!

I have to say yours and David Weidoff’s are the only characters I like from the show, I guess its coz they’re the most craziest xD

A couple of comments, now that I’ve seen the entire (surprisingly good) series:

First, despite your occasional suggestion of not putting generic apartment sitcoms on the web, this is a show that would probably work very well in terms of building an audience. If you have contact with the creators/owners, given how the show’s been unceremoniously dumped (or WAS that the ceremony?), you might want to give them a little nudge.

Second, if we don’t get a hip-hop album out of this, I’m going to be very disappointed. No, wait. Full concert video would be better, of course.

Oh, and I hope you and Tyler work together again in the future. You play off each other really well.

Unfortunately, the show was canceled even BEFORE my episodes aired :( I really loved my character. I think your point is right, but then again, we’re talking about a network show vs. a web show. networks NEED to appeal to as broad a cross-section as possible. Web Shows I believe should be the opposite.

(If I ramble too long, I apologize in advance.)

I get what you’re saying; startup money is small, so there’s no need to be a ratings winner. I don’t know that I agree that Internet-only shows “should” be off the Hollywood beat, though, just that it’s fine if they are. There seems to be plenty of space for something with broad appeal. Heck, “The Guild” even seems to be just such a show. Put down that baseball bat…You might see it as niche, but is anybody alienated or confused by the concept? When Internet addictions regularly make the nightly news, CAN it be niche?

(By contrast, I’m not sure how “The Big Bang Theory” ever got on the air–it’s funny NOW, but the first season seemed to be written for people who wanted to deride nerds, but didn’t have enough information to form a funny joke about one.)

It’s odd. In some ways, the Internet resembles early television. We often watch on three-inch screens. Successful shows have sponsorship deals. Shows are shorter because producers underestimate our attention span. I’m actually surprised that we don’t see more straight “Hollywood” adaptation, just like the early radio imports.

On the other hand, a show can sit until it finds an audience, rather than needing to hook an executive drone with the teaser and credits–technically, you don’t even need an audience. There are more possible voices and far less oversight. In that, I’m surprised there’s so little diversity.

Err…What were we talking about on this page? Right. Yes. Alyssa was a great character. I don’t want to sound like I’m flirting, but if a girl made an enormous pillow out of MY blazer to drool on at night…
