Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

WARNING: THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!! There’s not much that can be said about Dr. Horrible that hasn’t been said. For more information you can check the website or the official fansite. At the end of 2008, Dr. Horrible was been lauded from every outlet from Time Magazine, to the Washington Post as a brilliant work in a revolutionary format and the best TV of the year.

It certainly will be considered the seminal work in New Media for years to come, and in retrospect I’m sure will have been the turning point in revolutionizing content creation and distribution. I can’t say how privileged I am to have played the role of “Penny”, and if I were to quit acting now I would be quite content with this under my belt. Joss, Jed, Zack and Maurissa wrote an amazing screenplay that captured a unique, funny, tragic world.

The music, written by Joss and Jed is captivating, and as a by-product made me a Billboard Top 40 artist, which makes me giggle with the absurdity of it. If I were not in it I would be a fangirl, so please, enjoy if you haven’t already.

Ms. Day, you were so enchanting as Penny! ^^
Do you know if Whedon plans to bring “Dr. Horrible” to the stage? It would be thrilling to have the chance to play Penny too!
Felicia,
You were the perfect actress for penny!
Do you know if they are planning to make any other episodes? It’s so sad that the character “Penny” dies!
I hope that it is a “yes”.
Thanks,
Frances and Olivia
Thanks for spoiling this for people who are yet to see Dr Horrible’s!!!
She said there would be spoilers. And why haven’t you watched Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog yet? It’s hi-larious.
I just finally got the DVD from Amazon (shipping to Europe needs some time…), and I must say: The musical commentary is awesome (as is the main movie of course)! Congratulations to all of you, I love Dr. Horrible (as I do love the Guild) (oh, and btw, you have an awesome singing voice!)
Christian from Austria
I tracked you down by way of Buffy season 7. I also saw you in some cheerleader movie. It appealed to me on a Druid Level. I liked the Buffy series and anything that Josh is involved in…I wouldn’t mind talking to the “J Man” about a Serenity idea. Blah, blah, blah…, ramble, ramble… I will be looking for more of Dr. Horrible’ s Sing Along and if I had DSL or better, I’d check out Guild too.
As a parting shout, I like red heads and I think you’re cute.
I watched this again for the nth time last night. It’s the only thing I’ve bought off iTunes. Awesome in every possible way!
You have a beautiful singing voice, Felicia. You should ask Joss and Jed to write you something else to sing sometime.
I’d be happy to write something for you as well. I’ve got a song called Her Story that might fit your voice. The girl singing in that recording is another friend from the blogosphere. If you’re ever interested, you can catch me on Twitter.
Anyway, great work in that show. It’s got to be hard to act and sing at the same time.
You’re probability sick of reading stuff about people’s thoughts on Dr. Horrible, but just in case you have a burning desire to read something else, I wrote on it on my blog “One Step Closer: Religion & Popular Culture.
Thanks again for being part of a great project!

That’s cool that they let you guys take pictures outside of the laundry mat…
Me and a couple of buddies went on a “Horrible” Adventure (Maytag Laundry, Echo Park, S Central street corner and Berry Good frozen yogurt) a couple of months ago. The owner lady of the laundry mat wouldn’t let us take any pictures either in or around the laundry mat. We feared that she was following us for the whole day trying to put a stop to our fan pics. I still look over my shoulder to this day.

bloody LOVE Dr. Horrible! shame im outside of the US and cant view it on Hulu.com
Frankly i like anything Joss Wheden has had part in which i have seen.
Shame Penny was killed off in webisode 3
Felicia!
I first discovered you when my mom had me watch Dr. H over the summer. I didn’t think I would like it, but once I watched the first act I was going crazy waiting for the second! You are a fantastic actress in Buffy, Dr. H, The Guild, and HOUSE MD! (My favorite TV show!)
Hope to hear from you,
-Krista
Really nice and criative songs Joss …
Felicia, You´r a really good ( and gorgeous ) artist.
Keep this wonderful energy .
Kisses from your Brazilian Fan .
Felicia you have a great singing voice. Since you, Amber Benson and Eliza Dushku have the best voices from Buffy you girls should get together and make a CD. It would be the best and I know I would buy it.
Felicia,
Hmm, old thread and you’re unlikely to read or comment this far back, but since Mel just posted here and I don’t think there are likely to be any new Dr. Horrible threads anytime soon, here come my 2 cents:
Someone has posted all the Musical Commentary tracks on YouTube and most of the fan comments about your solo song, All About the Art. rave about the banter that precedes your song.
But what about your song itself? It’s a great, and somewhat gymnastic, vocal performance! How many different voices do you feature? 4 or 5 I think. Plenty of acting in there too (as in “catch guild fever” and that whole section, the intonation on “then again I was killed”, as in the two little hesitations you put in the “pooing” section, several others). I think you easily match the pace of Neil’s Brand New Day intro in the fast section in the end that amusingly references Brand New Day. How many takes did you need to get that whole section out, and do you do it all in one breath?!
Anyway, it’s a great singing performance, not an easy one at all, and since I haven’t really seen much if anything ever written about it specifically, I thought it deserved notice.
Keep up the amazing work. I know you will.
Looking forward to the new Guild musical video….
I don’t have the words to say how much I love “Dr Horrible”, and I totally adored you in the role of Penny. I have been a fan of Neil, Nathan and Joss for a long time, and now you are in the list too
Kisses from Argentina!
OMG that first pic is from the “twittering incident” isn’t it? I still laugh every time when I remember that
Love Dr.H, The Guild and everything with a little Felicia Day in it
I haven’t seen anything this incredible since yesterday. Excellent work.
I just watched this show the other day. Man i loved it. The music is great and very catchy. Iv been singing the songs at work all day lol. Its one of those rare shows that drags you in and straight away. Top stuff.
Simply wonderful. I don’t use that word often but it seems appropriate. Looking forward to many more great projects. Huge The Guild fan. I’d date your avatar, but I’m already married. (In RL, though my avatar IS available…)
You have a truly beautiful singing voice. I hope to hear much more of it in the future.
Needless to say, your acting in “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” was great, too.
Who would have thought Doogie could sing! ? ! The cast of Harris, Fallon (aka Castle) and Day are fantastic!
Okay, too many “!” in here, but hey, they did a great job in what should be heralded as the best comedy musical since “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Well, ok ok ok… Maybe not ‘the’ best, but better than RHPS, may it RIP.
Sorry, had to wipe a tear. This so reminds me of the super hero MMO games from Cryptic Studios. *No, I’m not affiliated, but there was this evil Scientologist I played and… DOH never mind*
Bring on the Soundtrack! Bring on the DvD! Bring on Broadway!
Great job Joss and company. TYVM for sharing.

Hello Felicia/standby-slayer/Penny/Meg/Whedon-versian,
long time reader/watcher, first time writer. You folks responsible for these works are the reasons why I am a happy man. What would life be without these witty, fulfilling shows that help keep a smile on my face and a song in my heart and head.
My wife and I have been a fan of Joss Whedon’s work since the first season of Buffy, and for several years now, have been collectors of the DVDs: Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible and now Dollhouse. We were happy to see you on the “missing” episode. OK, I admit, I haven’t looked at “The Guild” yet, but it is officially (notarized and filed) now at the top of my list of todos.
Luckily for me, we have some very good friends who also “get it”. Otherwise we probably would not have any friends at all. Who wants to hang out with people who don’t understand the Whedonesque sense of humor in these shows anyway. Not me. No sir. Sorry. . . no ma’am. It’s just not normal to NOT want to find these shows entertaining.
I may sound a little fanatical, but when I’m having a particularly bad day at work (as a traveling technical consultant), one of the ways I put it aside is to look down at my hand-made wrist band with the letters WWWD branded into it – “What Would Whedon Do”. Then everything seems OK. Do I really have a wristband like this? No. Am I thinking about getting one, now that I’ve entertained the idea. I might? Maybe? Dunno?
What I really want, no, need, to say to you is: Once you are a conduit of that which is Whedon, we fans will always be ready and waiting for your next project/role, watching and cheering you on, and then waiting again for that next taste of brilliance.
Because that’s what Whedon-love is. Obsessive and nerdy. . . but well-meaning. All silliness aside, when we were done watching Dr. Horrible last autumn, we applauded with tears in our eyes. Just the two of us. In our living room. Sitting in front of our computer, watching Dr. Horrible through iTunes. You just can’t find shows like this often enough that draw you in and then tickle you. Moving on.
I have some ideas for new projects. I’ll give you their titles and you can think about what their themes might be:
Day and Knight
Fillion in the Blanks
Witches of EastWhedon
JIT (Joss in Time)
Whedes
And for the kids:
Everybody poops: It’s what you do with it that’s important

HOT
This morning at breakfast my husband and I were discussing how cool it would be if there was a dr. Horrible wii game. Not just karaoke, but minigames like Throw Penny in the Trash, Hammer’s Signature, Drive the Deliveryvan, Zap ‘Em (with the freezeray and deathray), Hold On (Trying to grab stuff while being Moist), Beating Up The Doc, Throwing Cars at the Doc’s Head, or doing a sequence of moves so Billy and Penny dance. Don’t Spill the Beer for the chorusboys, and a find-stuff game for the groupies as they go through Hammer’s trash. (And later, Dr. Horrible’s.) Maybe an alternate lived-happily-ever-after-but-failed-the-ELE ending, haha.
So… Your humble subjects await. Talk The Powers That be into creating a game! Please?;)
Love,
Jo
I absolutely love Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog!!! I love NPH, and the songs absolutely rock.
