YES, I AM IN DR. HORRIBLE'S SING-A-LONG BLOG

To answer a ton of emails all at once, yes I am part of the cast of Joss Whedon’s new internet musical “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog”. It’s an amazing experience, we’re shooting now, my toes are frozen from standing in the cold all day, but I didn’t mind a bit because it’s so damned fun working!
This project is, to use a slang term I’d never heard before today, “clutch.” (Was that right usage?!) More talented writers of prose and music cannot be found. I can’t stop singing these songs, even the ones I’m not in. To say it’s an honor and intimidating yet inspiring at the same time would not be an exaggeration.

That is all. I must sleep. Can’t wait to go back to work again!

Clutch? I’m not sure what that means, but Dr Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog sounds awesome. Although really, it looks like Whedon is moving in on your web-series territory. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, though!

    Can’t wait to see it.

According to Urban Dictionary, “clutch” is “Great, Essential, and Potent rolled into a single word.” So if this musical is clutch, it must indeed be pretty awesome. And possibly able to father many baby musicals.

And good point, crossoverman! It’s only a matter of time before we see a Guild musical episode, then, right? (I just caught up on the series today and laughed a lot. Congrats on the SXSW award!)

I never remember the Urban Dictionary! Good work, Polter-Cow.

“The Guild” is hilarious – and pretty smart about its subject matter.

I love the Urban Dictionary. Especially because it defines me as the coolest kid around town.

It also defines many, many things I don’t really want to think about, but you’ve got to take the sour with the sweet.

A clutch is used in an automobile with a standard transmission to change gears. In this case it may mean that production is gearing up, or production is in high gear.

A clutch also means a group of birds that are all born at the same time, I was riffing on a t-shirt i was wearing one time. It said “save the t-rex”, I told some people who were asking about it that there were only that clutch in california and a breeding pair in texas. I suppose this meaning of the word might mean that the production is running around like chickens with their heads chopped off, or everyone in the production were birdbrains… but i doubt it.

Just what would we have done if Felicia hadn’t invented the genre… um… yeah. ;)

Yay for Dr. Horrible, can’t wait to see it!

I guess the musical Christmas short they did can count.

    March 17th 2008 @ 10:47 AM

I can’t wait to see this – three wonderful actors in the leads and Joss (+ his clan) writing again – how can the world get better?

Also, The Guild? It rocks – I would have said “it’s clutching!” but then got all confused about straws and stuff.

    March 17th 2008 @ 12:06 PM

Words cannot describe how much I am waiting to see this project hit the light of day. :)

    March 17th 2008 @ 4:51 PM

Clutch as a sports term means to come through when needed, ie bases loaded, 2 outs, down 1 run, and someone hits a clutch single to score two and win the game or a 3 pt basket when time expires.

Awesome on the project! Can’t wait for more Joss musical awesomeness. Amazing how NPH went from Doogie to completely reviving his career in about a year. Anything with Nathan or Felicia, I’ll watch. Especially for free :)

    March 17th 2008 @ 5:08 PM

LOL, I love how the term clutch (CREDIT TO FRIEND TJ ROTELL!!!) caused the most havoc in this post. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to feel not cool for being confused on it’s vernacular use. I used the word vernacular, har har.

You guys are gonna poop your pants when you hear Neil sing, I mean he is the most awesome….I can’t even gush enough because it would make me seem like a goober. Let’s just say goose bump city.
And Joss giving me any credit for inspiring him= I-adore-Joss-more-but-that-can’t-be-possible glow. Jesus Christ, I’m turning into Diablo Cody with this freaky vocab here. Must have coffee.

    March 17th 2008 @ 5:10 PM

I’m sure it’ll quickly be known as Penny’s Sing-A-Long Blog. Now go steal the show!

    March 17th 2008 @ 5:40 PM

    mmmm.. coffee ..

    -yay for sing-a-long.s

Diablo Cody for the win! I should have realised you read WHEDONesque. I feel slightly bad for calling you severely snuggable on there now.

    But only slightly.

    March 17th 2008 @ 6:30 PM

Hi there! Good news all around today (apart from Soma – sorry about your heartache). My first time over here after seeing the link on Whedonesque and I am going to book me some more time to have a good looky around – so much to see here! A fine site, Ms Day.

Great news about Dr Horrible and can’t wait to see it all on the Internet. Anyone know where it’s going to be hosted?

    Happy St Pat’s!

    March 17th 2008 @ 8:01 PM

    Joss says over at Whedonesque:

Two things I’d like to makes clear:

    1) Felicia Day is irresistible. Resist her. Try! Feel a little foolish now? She lights up the set (not literally; electricians do that), she sings like an angel and her acting is funny and true. Today we had all three principals singing together and it was not unfun. What a bunch.

    2) Felicia is partially responsible for this ever happening. “The Guild” first made me realize we could just go out there and get it done, make funny shows all by our lonesomes. In fact, I had coffee (not literally; I had tea) with her just to ask her about the process before I ever thought to cast her. (She has a huge amount of knowledge and talks very fast. I just nodded a lot and tried not to panic.) She’s perfect for this part, but it’s nice that she also earned it with Karma.

    3) I don’t have a three. It just seems like I should. More updates the next time my kids wake me up at 3:00! (Well, I guess 3:00 is a three… )

    March 17th 2008 @ 8:20 PM

I knew there was some Guild/Dr Horrible/Felicia/Joss inspiration synchronicity. Glad to hear Joss confirm it!

BWAHAHA @ Diablo Cody reference… Or should that now be Academy Award Winner Diablo Cody?

    March 17th 2008 @ 8:49 PM

Heh.. i’m definitely a fast talker also.. especially when I get nervous. Had an old lady start talking to me on the bus last week.
Her: Hi! Are you a student? I see you around a lot.
Me: No, but I used to be. Graduated years ago.
Her: You talk too fast. People don’t want to hear that. Makes you seem weak.

She then turns away from me, and I’m just kinda staring at her like “wtf?” No better way to start a day than to be ultra-self-conscious.

    March 17th 2008 @ 9:02 PM

Soma: at least in ure mainly black clothes you can mourn in peace without drawing undue attention. My green wardrobe is limited to none too, but I had a Guinness last night so that counts.

Break a leg is the best sitcom on the internet.

    March 17th 2008 @ 10:58 PM

No, I think the best sitcom on the Internet would be Arrested Development on Hulu.

Any chance we’ll see the lovely Felicia at the Buffy Reunion tomorrow?

    March 19th 2008 @ 7:37 PM

That would be really really great…..wish I had tickets! Hope they’ll be lots of reports from fans afer the event for all of us who can’t be there. And I see voting for The Guild is going well again!

Just got home from 12 hours on the set of Dr. Horrible. Thanks to Otto, Meredith and Cap, Joss cast me in the role of Mayor Hankins. I had no idea what I was walking into. What a blast. Having read the script a few days earlier didn’t give me a clue about how incredible this day would be. It was the music that just floored me. And boy are you right about Neils voice. The incredible eerie melody of his rebuttal song and the way he performed it was amazing. Working with you Felicia and Nathan was a treat. Major CUDOS to Jed, Zach, Maurissa and Joss for coming up with Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog. I am honored to be in it. Love ya Penny.

    March 21st 2008 @ 4:35 AM

Felicia, I was there with you. Although we didn’t get to speak, you were fantastic and loved your singing at the soup kitchen! I hope we can stay in touch!

Here’s a few pics for your memories:

(Just click on the album cover, 1st one)

Here’s my blog I recently started:
    http://normajeanspeaks.blogspot.com

I’ll be adding more, right now there’s one REALLY big one there about my experience on “10 Years Younger.” I hope you will enjoy the read.

Let’s DO stay in touch. I’m a singer too. I also have a variety show monthly down here in OC. You’re always welcome, just let me know. If you’d like to perform too, that would be amazing…you have a spot waiting :)

I left a message on Neil’s IMDB for an invite to do magic anytime, I just hope he takes me up on it..I LOVE magic, don’t you?

One thing about this show, the acts are NEVER announced, that keeps the mystery and people wanting to come see the surprises…it also protects people such as yourself from being hounded by press or fans, just come and enjoy :)

Well, I’ve said enough…it was great working with all of you and I felt so honored!!!!!!

Take care and please stay in touch!

    Hi Felicia!
I’m so happy for you — working with two of my heroes — Joss Whedon AND Nathan Fillion!

I would like to Beg your assistance with Filly – can you please continue slapping him with your tiny hands until he posts a new blog on his MySpace ? All the kids there would really appreciate it and we’d love to see you there too!

    Take care,
    Sl@yer

    March 22nd 2008 @ 12:06 AM

Hi Felicia, Joss said last night t the Paley they had wrapped the filming for Dr Horrible. Do you know when it might be released and have they got servers big enough to cope with the demand?! Hope you have a great wrap party and if you could prod Mr Fillion to add to his myspace blog and maybe add some more friends then that would be great.

Congrats on ‘The Guild’ wins and hope we’ll be seeing a lot more of you in the coming months.

    March 26th 2008 @ 2:59 AM

Rick! I just saw your post! I didn’t get to say goodbye to you on the set :) You were a treat, can’t wait to see us on the tiny screen together, haha!

    March 26th 2008 @ 3:23 AM

Looking at those pictures has me wondering how long before unofficial Captain Hammer shirts show up on Cafepress.

    March 26th 2008 @ 4:41 AM

Ha…there is a LOT of people jealous that I got a pic with Nathan. There would have been an equally number of jealous MEN if I had gotten a picture with you….so I’m hearing. Seems there’s a lot of Felici-ites out here, girl :) There’s a BUNCH of people waiting to see this, I’m networking the heck out of it!

    Hugs,
    NJ

    March 26th 2008 @ 4:48 AM

    Norma,

You got that right! I bet you’ve had people knocking on your door asking all about it: where it was shot, what were the songs like, how great it all was etc….! Hope you have a ball with it all and thanks for sharing.

    March 26th 2008 @ 5:02 AM

Yes, it’s been nuts…I was in quite a few big features last year but friends/family weren’t nearly as interested in those as they are in this! By talents, I’m an actor, comedian, singer, dancer, producer, director–Everything I love and live for was encompassed in this production. I must say, hands down, it’s right up there with meeting Lily Tomlin this past weekend. The effect this is going to have and how historical and pivotal it will be is exciting to anticipate. Personally, I enjoy short films..but add musical numbers? I’m hooked! Joss is a genius.

This is really exciting! I’m glad you’re having fun with it (I’m soooo jealous!).

    April 14th 2008 @ 7:28 AM

wow that’s so cool you’re in this cast! can’t wait to see it! I’m a huge Joss Whedon fan ^_^.

so I just found out about ‘the guild’ from searching who the winners were from this years youtube awards! Congrats! How do i say how much i love your work without sounding like a weirdo. i guess i just have to say it. i love your work! I can’t wait for episode 9! i’ve tabbed and subscribed nearly everywhere so i can see it soon as it comes out. love that it’s told from the healers point of view and that sadly enough it’s so close to my life. but enough nerdy praise from me. Stay true, keep writing, acting and doing.

PS: by the way, imdb says you’re 27 years old and myspace says you’re 18, how old are you? probably a stupid question considering you hold a bachelor.

    June 29th 2008 @ 12:25 AM

Felicia Day is teh Pwnage. You rock, the guild rocks, too!
