So this Saturday night could have been funner, I think. I got tickets last month as part of my birthday gift to myself to the closing show of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” tour. I didn’t really know what the deal with the tour was, but when I saw Cyndi Lauper was playing with Erasure, one of my absolute FAVORITE bands, I bought tickets. Then I saw that Deborah Harry (Blondie) was on the bill too. GREAT! First thing that comes to mind: 80’s! Dress up! Cool! So, my brother, my boyfriend and another friend of mine all got together a few hours before the concert and totally Eighties’d it up. I had crazy yellow lace leggings, bright blue eyeshadow, lots of jewelry, and my friend teased my hair into Tammy Faye Baker heights. We all wore crazy colors, and skinny ties, and we looked like a bad band from 1982. Fun times right?
The True Colors Tour will bring together Americans across the country to voice their solidarity against discrimination and for equality and raise public awareness about the issues facing the gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans gender community.
Me in my lace yellow tights and hair-sprayed hair, we were one of the few ones in the whole HUGE outdoor stadium who were dressed weird. Awwwwkward. Especially when they showed the Matthew Shepard video tribute. I tried to pat my hair lower during that one. You know that scene in the movie where they tell the nerdy kid “Yeah, it’s a dress up party, wear a costume!” and he shows up in a donkey suit and it’s not a dress up party at all, it’s like a church function or something? Yeah, I just lived that 🙂
Erasure was still worth going for. Oh L’Amour!
