Portfolio – Mauricio Guimaraes – web designer / illustrator

I need to redo the Flog like this.  Pretty much the coolest website EVER!

It’s very cool, but there’s a lot going on visually… and it intimidates me.

  2. Dana says:

Whoa. That’s awesome-looking. Abysmal in terms of accessibility issues though. I tried to view one of the pages with Firefox’s “no page style” option, and ended up with a chunk of text (part of it cropped off) in a tiny box with a background gradient where the text size couldn’t be adjusted. Also, there were no links anywhere on the page.

Which I know probably doesn’t matter to people who consider their website a work of art in itself, but you have interesting content that would be lost to some readers.

    That website is amazing!

  4. Anth says:

I have to say it’s a bit grandiose for a blog, admittedly not for a flog. lol! Okay that’s not so funny.

Usability is paramount, Felicia. All that frou-frou, while nifty looking, gets in the way of functionality.

Horrid… A time waster… The kind of site that has me racing to the back button on my browser…

Unrelated: I think if Fe could sneak a few Cheetos into Julianne Nicholson’s laundry, she May be able to swipe her role on “Law & Order”! :)

Gotta side with the masses on this one. That site, although really really cool looking, is horrid in terms of use.

Plus, the Flog should be an easy to use so that we can keep up on things :) Weeee

  9. Hi Felicia,

I found your site because many accesses to my site came from this post. I’m glad you like my website. But it is a Beta version, that means it has some improvements to do. But comments like yours make me very happy.

    All the best for you!

Love the guys artwork, no question there. Very nice concept but yea, useability is an issue.

On an unrelated note, my wife yelled at me from upstairs this weekend and made me come and see what she was watching on TV. To my surprise, there was Felicia! My wife said “Hey, isn’t that Codex from The Guild?!?” And sure enough, it was :)

She was watching Lifetime I think but it was this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0439719/

Not on this topic, but sad news relevant to pretty much all gamers, both online an offline. The title of the article says it all “Gary Gygax 1938-2008″.

  12. Joe says:

    So much negativity here!

It’s like traveling to another world. You can’t see it all at one time. That’s what makes it beautiful.

As far as usability goes, you can always use the bottom navigation.

  13. J.KRIEK says:

Visual design and usability shouldn’t be confused because they’re two fields that weren’t meant to overlap. They do so on the web because it’s the first interface where people are meant to do more than look and feel; they’re supposed to respond while they’re on a site. You have to make things understandable (that’s the usability part) but you can only make things understandable if you know how they’ll respond to what they see (that’s the design part). You have kick-ass sites that nobody can use and completely usable sites that are so ugly nobody wants to navigate them. Most web designers tend towards usability and it shows in most sites. You know where to click but you don’t want to. Design, and I mean making links and content appealing enough for people to want to look at them and click, that’s where you get kick-ass sites where visitors navigate easily and do business on.
