Happy Labor Day!

So, I’m shooting a commercial tomorrow and then going out of town for a little mini-vacation, because more than 4 months in LA without a break is impossible to tolerate.

It made me think, what the hell is Labor Day for anyway? For me, the only significance of Labor Day is that in college, it was the weekend I had to get my crap together. Classes always started the Wednesday before, and I always had to figure out what course to drop that weekend, because my schedule was always overly ambitious, like 20 hours ambitious. I never got around to taking that gem cutting class I lusted after, but I did register for it a few times, then dropped it in a panic on the weekend.

Anyway, I looked it up and it’s supposed to be a day dedicated to the “working man” and, basically the Labor movement. And the last day you can wear white. And, unofficially the last day of Summer. Yawn o rama. I tried to see if anything exciting happened on any Sept 3 and found this:

1954 After nearly 3,000 episodes, The Lone Ranger hangs

up his spurs, ending a 21-year legacy of radio drama.

So…yeah. Exciting memorial this is not. Just consider it a day off and enjoy yourself without any religious or patriotic guilt 🙂 That’s a vacation in itself.

I’ll be back Monday, have a great weekend everyone!

  • Frigid

“I’ll be back Monday, have a great weekend everyone!” she states, as she rides off along the dusty trail into the sunset. A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty ‘Hi-yo Silver!’ The Lone Felicia!

  • Ben

Thanks for checking that out for us Felicia. I thought there was a bit more to it, so I did a little reading of my own and yep, pretty much celebrating labor unions, better conditions for workers and a way for organized crime to expand its’ reach into a much wider audience. Yay Labor Day!

Have a fun vacation Floggers! (that totally sounds perverted) I’ll be stuck at home wasting hour after hour with some of those great websites you guys posted on yesterdays thread. (OMG Popurls is insane! Love it!)

“A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty ‘Hi-yo Silver!’ The Lone Felicia!”

Hey Frigid, I think you meant “firey mule”… I hope she adds the list of things she can do to her resume and one of them should read “Ride a mule”.

  • I know, Ben. I started out trying to make a really interesting historical post and I really couldn’t bring it home, lol. I’ll just spell it “Labour” day, maybe the British twist makes it sound more interesting.

FYI dust isn’t that romantic. It makes your nostrils turn brown and gathers in sweat…not attractive 😀

    Really leaving now! XOXO

“Just consider it a day off and enjoy yourself without any religious or patriotic guilt.”

Ah, yes. I hate that I feel guilty about feeling guilty about religious and patriotic holidays, but I do. I’m happy Labor Day isn’t tied up with the guilt thing. Although, for me, it’s another day off in the long lines of days off. School still hasn’t started for me; I went on summer break May 18 and I won’t go to school until Sept. 18. (Didn’t realize the symmetry until right now. Awesome.)

    Have fun on vacation, Felicia!

Hey Felicia….I just went to PAX and I saw this guy http://www.jonathancoulton.com/ there. And it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. You’ve prolly heard of him but if you haven’t I wanted to share. Check out Code Monkey especially http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4TnhemCEmc

  • I’ve got an Amazon gift certificate burning holes in my pocket,
and I want to get the most bang for my buck.

Enter the Secret Amazon Web Pages:

    http://tinyurl.com/38sojf

This is where you’re going to find the “latest sales, rebates, and limited-time offers” from
Amazon, and you can score some pretty deep discounts if you’re a savvy shopper.

Next, there’s the special Sale link. This is open every Friday, and ONLY on Fridays.

You can find the same good discounts here as you would in hidden Deals, although some
Fridays you can really get lucky and make off like an Amazon bandit – I’ve seen discounts
there as low as 75% off sticker price.
