Guild Episodes 9&10 Blog'd

Sorry this is quite late, I have been working straight for 2 weeks now almost, so my life got thrown into turmoil and I lost track of a LOT of stuff πŸ™‚ Cool thing is, I’ll be on an episode of Three Rivers and Lie to Me sometime in December (the 14th for Lie to Me, waiting on firm confirmation of that.) Really nice to have a job, and two back to back is a total record for me! πŸ™‚ I’ll do a blog entry dedicated to these jobs and my experiences when they air, so look out for it!

Now: Episodes 9 and 10 of The Guild!

<br /><a href="" target="_new"title="Season 3 - Episode 9: Wit's End">Video: Season 3 &#8211; Episode 9: Wit&#8217;s End</a>

What can I say about these episodes? I love them! They’re really the best ones of the season, everything has built up in a way that leads to the very bottom and the very height of the Guild this season. I know people were getting impatient about the Knights of Good fighting back, so when Codex and Zaboo track down Valkerie and p’own him, it’s pretty damned satisfying. Hopefully for you too πŸ™‚

For Episode 9 we have the highlight for me: the last, great scene in the office, OUTSIDE WORLD! Actually, last season Sandeep (Zaboo) pitched me the idea of Vork and Zaboo torturing someone by deleting his or her armor one piece at a time. It’s a pretty traumatic event for a gamer, those pieces are HARD EARNED! I didn’t find a place for it season 2, but for season 3, with revenge a theme, it was perfect. When I first did a draft of the script, I actually had Codex in on it, going crazy and deleting the character’s armor. But I backed away from that because I didn’t want her to violate her character so much, and with Riley’s treatment of Zaboo, it fell into place that his vengeance would get out of control as a repressed reaction to her treatment. @mikerose is one of the FUNNIEST people I know, and this scene is just fantastic because of him. A few of his adlibs like “You Tiny Monster…” and “Your breathe is hot…” still make me roll on the floor.

Oh, and I can’t skip over Vork’s triple take when I call him a “poo face” earlier in the ep. It’s the best reaction he’s ever given. He’s normally pretty stone-faced, but director Sean Becker gave him a note to just “go for it” and voila, comedy gold. I really want an animated GIF of him doing that, haha.

EP 10! My favorite ep! I can’t tell you how incredibly I love this episode. Jeff Lewis is at his height of hilarity here, the scene where he’s proud people hate him was so hard to get through because of his WEIRD hand gestures! I was biting my cheeks the whole time! In fact, the speech where he says “Evil must not stop us…” was cut from the script, but I loved my line after that “this is a techno song, right?” SOOO much I threw all that dialogue back at him right before we shot. Credit to him for learning and delivering.

An interesting comment was made on Twitter, about everything being made “ok” because a man came back and took over. I certainly didn’t mean that at ALL. The fact is, Codex is not a good leader. She will never be a good leader, especially in the time frame of 6 days in this season. That is how people ACTUALLY are. She’s BETTER than she was at the beginning, but to think that she realistically could take on the mantle of Guild Leader (and REPLACE Vork which I didn’t want her to do) against the Anarchists was such a stretch for me, and a direction I didn’t want to go in with the script. So, Vork comes back, after his big journey, and puts the Guild back together. Codex will get her moment, don’t worry.

Every scene in ep 10 is so good I find it hard to not talk about each one. Sir Loop a Lot was a last minute rewrite, I originally had it as a typical FPS game, but I was so bored with that idea, so I was like, “Let’s go the opposite way”. Sean, Kim Evey and I did all the Loop-A-Lot Voices, we had WAY too good a time doing it too, haha. And Vork’s dog monologue is my favorite thing I’ve ever written, it cracks me up so much. Clara being hit on by the kid’s, the thumping of the toys on her chest is such a funny touch, and we had SUCH a fun time improving in the scene at the door, you’ll see with the outtakes.

Lastly, I just want to give major kudos to director/editor Sean Becker for making the last sequence SO DAMNED COOL. I wrote in the script “slo-mo Reservoir Dog’s-Style montage” but had no visual concept of what that mean. With our tiny budget, stealing shots, he made a badass sequence of geekdom. We look cool, then not cool, then cool again. Our composor Eanon Patterson as always does an AMAZING job creating a song for us to fit the mood.

2 more episodes this season! Woot!

  • I liked this Episode so much, can’t wait for next one ..

  • Brad L.

I’ve watched the episodes lots of times already and Mike Rose’s improvs still make me literally laugh out loud, and Jeff is brilliant in ep 10. Amazing work as always!

  • I love the Codex “Just come on”/Vork “No” combo response to Zaboo just wanting to be called Boo. Cracked me up!

    Great episodes!

  • And Vork’s dog monologue is my favorite thing I’ve ever written, it cracks me up so much.
You have good taste in the things you have written, because that monologue was AWESOME. It cracked me up so much as well.

  • Mike D.

I agree WRT the Vork dog monologue. I tried it at work, though, and it didn’t go over so well. The strained “yesssss!” from the scene in Codex’s room was a perfect touch, too. Jeff must be killer funny to work around.

My kids and I were cracking up watching this one together, and during the slo-mo scene one of them told me he thought the song was “pretty badass for being funny.” So, now the two boys and I are trying to figure out the music to play it ourselves. Should make for an interesting home video.

  • Susan Anderson

I use new episodes as carrots to get me through my homework… if I do a good solid hour of coding, I earn an episode. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the double reward this week… these are gold.

  • Great episodes, Felicia – and YAY! You have used exactly the same phrase to describe the walking scene as I did in my review of Ep 10 – Reservoir Dogs FTW! πŸ˜€ (I wrote it last night and I had been checking to see if you had blogged about it but you hadn’t). It was so totally cool to see you all tooled up with your weapons of choice!

You have really put everyone through the wringer with Season 3 and there have been some bold moves – but the payoff is totally worth it. I can’t wait to see how what you have in store next.

PS I’m trying really hard not to say this because I know you are totally busy but….PLEASE SAY THERE IS GOING TO BE A SEASON 4!!!!

  • Ken

As usual, it’s the little details/moments that entertain me the most. In episode 9, Codex’s stiff, rehearsed hand gestures during her speech, and her forced smile at the end, were brilliant. Vork’s reaction to the “Poo Face” insult had me howling. Zaboo’s judo roll was hilarious and his Riley-rage bubbling to the surface was slightly disturbing. I also loved Valkyrie’s mini lecture on Damask the reversible fabric. Great writing, great acting. And episode 10, I don’t think there was a single moment that wasn’t pure gold.

Congrats on the jobs. I will definitely be watching out for your episodes.

  • I am now obsessed with @mikerose so thank you for that.

*adds restraining order to pile in the office*

  • Grraargh

Great episodes! That triple take is a classic! Glad to here you’vre been getting some proper jobs, those bills don’t pay themselves. As you’ve been so busy I’ll forgive your lack of activity on simler :). Really looking forward to the last two episodes of the Guild, and I echo Higlet about a season 4!

  • Dearest of them all,

I had such a loud lough at the whole Zaboo and Vork Dog Talking Scene that the entire house got quite of shock for a moment. I still have to laugh out loud with every rewatch.

And regarding Mike Rose. I love him since I saw him for real at Comicon for the first time. His Rockband singing performance was so funny, that I couldn’t resist on loving him just for that with everything else as a bonus given.

What more can I say, I love The Guild more and more (is more even possible?) and I can’t wait to see the last episodes of this season.

And I also can’t wait to see you side by side with Tim Roth. πŸ˜‰

  • Nokomys

Gratz on all your upcoming shows Felicia!! Ep. 9 was great, “918 hours logged on this IP address” yeah I checked mine and it’s a lot more lol. The funniest thing about that scene to me is after all that wipage, Valkyrie takes the time to explain what damask is.

Ep. 10 omg omg I can’t wait to see what happens next, such a great cliffhanger. Sooo glad Clara’s back!! Kudos on the Reservoir Dogs tribute!!

Also, I just watched your vid where you showed Jimmy Fallon the WoW ropes. That shit was the funniest thing ever. Why would someone make a toon that everyone just wants to be nice to and ask advice from.

Love that your toon is a lock. Come to my server lol our lock always forgets to stone me. Undead Priest ftw! Just got a new helm from Ony 25 the other night mm/

  • I’ve often said how I feel that each episode is often a marked improvement over the previous ones and these last two have been awesome! I laughed like a loon at episode 10 and can’t wait for the next episode. Vork’s character gets funnier and funnier, the writing gets sharper and the characters develop in a believable way that nonetheless suprises and delights in equal measure. Thanks for all the hard work, it’s a source of great enjoyment and enternainment for so many. In short, I <3 The Guild!

  • Dani

    You asked for it…

It’s not very good though, I’ve never done a gif before.

    • Ken

  • James

I just heard that Felicia will be co-hosting Attack of the show tomorrow on G4, good luck.

  • Mwall

I cannot wait for episode 11! great work Felicia.

  • Hehe Dani! Looks great and yes, Vork is hypnotic – like hypnotoad!

  • Patrick

Congrats on the two jobs at once. πŸ™‚ Will look forward to those two as well.

These two episodes certainly give us the high quality we are used to. Bit of a cliff hanger in episode 10. I’m anxious to see what they actually *do* at the LAN party.

  • Mike D.

Looks like the blog comment monster ate my last, verbose attempt at posting (SYNOPSIS: totally perfect ep), so let me state briefly: Dani, fantastic job! Can I ask how you grabbed those frames for the GIF? I can clean up that file in PS, but I couldn’t figure out how to pull the Flash video frames.

    • Dani

      I used PrintScreen. =)

  • Jose de Segadas Vianna Neto

Hi, i just watched episode 10 and i have one word to describe you, Felicia.

I am dying to see what happens next, the story is great and the return of Vork, really spice it up.

    Thx for the GREAT show.
I am doing everything i can to increase your fan base here in Brasil.

  • Brent

2 more episodes this season! noooo! I don’t want it to end. haha
Amazing season Felicia, can’t wait for the finale.

  • HAHA OMG Dani, that’s hilarious!!!! Wow, so funny, sending an email to Jeff right now with it hahaha!

  • You working fool you. Are you lying to me. Admit it this is late because you have been playing WOW.

  • VORK FTW! He’s the best character and needs his own spinoff show or maybe a prequel.
    The Guild Origins: Vork

  • WoodyBade

Dani- I’m fairly sure, if I ever post anything online again, I have my new signature bar gif.

Felicia- Great work on The Guild, and also kudos on landing Lie to Me. I’ve known Brendan for a few years, the guy is a bloody riot. Good times for all when he’s around, as I’m sure you know.

Keep up the funny’s with The Guild – y’all have quite a following over here in, shockingly enough, Iraq of all places!

    Happy Vet’s day everyone.

  • Fantastic! Especially the scene in the office (and the fact that we have 2 episodes to see! πŸ™‚

  • Markus

The rollercoaster ride continues. The whole series is just amazing beyond words so far. All the hard work by everyone involved is really paying off. I almost feel guilty that as a fan I just get to sit back and enjoy it with a few joypad button presses πŸ™‚

I cannot wait for all 3 dvd’s to be out so that I can see all the material that ended up on the cutting room floor (or Sean’s recycling bin in this case).

I only wish the episodes were bi-weekly as this series has got near to a conclusion far too quickly!

Thanks Felicia. Superb work. It really is appreciated by all of us.

And cheers for the brilliant .GIF Dani πŸ˜›

It’s fun to watch a little web series that can continue to grow in popularity when big budgeted A-list talent mainstreamers fall off Fox. Not good for your friends, but from an outsider’s perspective, underdog rules, bottom up, tits out.

As an A-list screenwriter said about you recently, “there’s a lot to be said for a writer who knows her subject matter.” And a team that commits to the whole ride.

Good to see it back in the pocket after the Halloween episode that, sorry, I think a bad blip. Just sayin’.

  • I’ve been wanting to comment on the tear-inducing “Vork’s Epic Journey” moment of episode 9…I have never seen such dramatic weenie-waggling. It was beautiful…(and should be a TFOS feat).

  • The picture on the embedded episode 9 video (when it’s not playing) made me giggle. It looks like Zaboo is “hump attacking” Codex.

  • Jag

Amazing! I love the gif Dani!

As for the ep 10, I loved the slow mo walk at the end, its impressive how something so simple can get so funny.
    Best ep 10 line…

You made me guild leader and I ruined everything you JERK!
    Gosh that made me laugh…

  • Melanie

Oh wow, that is the best END of your episodes ever. I love that style!

  • Steven (CO, USA)

Yeah what a cliff hanger at the end there. I laughed so hard at the speach codex gives, how fake the smile is at the end just cracked me up. Can’t wait for the next installment I’m excited to see what happens. I hope that The Guild kicks the crap out of those weird guys that bang moms…

  • Kelly

My only complaint is that Bladezz says Sharebears instead of Carebears! lol

  • Jose de Segadas Vianna Neto

I just saw the 11th episode.
Fantastic, i was stunned when Vork started to speak Korean and i couldnt belive that Mr. Wiggly took out the korean guy.
Maybe he and Clara can be together, after all.

    But what happened to Bladezz?
He is not himself right now, he misses Tink and cant admit?

    Poor Codex…..
Fight on girl, kick that guyΒ΄s ass.
(and i hope that Tink rejoin you guys and let herself be killed).

    Big kiss.

  • Jenny

A friend of mine from Venezuela told me about your webshow and I started watching it and can’t stop. It is written so well and the acting skills of you and your co-actors are amazing. I love it. I hope to see a lot more of you in the future.

    Greetings from germany and austria

  • Vork’s breaking down and the character killing in the office scene in Episode 9 was hilariously wonderful. What better way for revenge against the Axis of Anarchy? (And I guess what better way to show off Zaboo’s insanity? :))

Can’t wait until the next episode!

While i (hopefully) have your attention, how does one donate to The Guild? Are you guys still accepting donations?

  • The first video was really funny:) Especially the scene where you insult the guy and he gets upset:)
