And a NEW Gag Reel!

You can download them all from the browser onto your Xbox too.

This episode has my favorite Codex scenes yet. Basically when I go to festivals/panels, they always ask for a scene to show, but other than a webcam entry, it’s hard to pick a lot of scenes out that feature all of Codex’s character: She’s by definition shy, withdrawn, passive and internally neurotic (what they always tell you NOT to write, and makes her the hardest character to flesh out when I am actually writing, haha). The scene with me and Tink will definitely be one I feature in the future, as well as put on my reel. I LOVE LOVE doing physical comedy (that’s why I particularly like acting on sitcom sets) and this was a believable scene where I got to do some of those crazy moves I usually reserve for the DDR pad. I love the dynamic between the characters, and how competent Tink is with the ball, and how INCOMPETENT but determined Codex is to try (and fail) to work things out. Amy was a pro-baller in High school so that’s why I set this scene at the court (special skills FTW!)

In addition, Wil brings it home as Fawkes in this scene. I love LOVE the part where he says the thing about the gas tank, that’s directly stolen from my brother who once said he liked to push the gas tank as far as possible before refilling, whereas I am the kind of person who fills a little below 1/4, total anxiety about running out. It’s hard to be such a jerk and yet totally charming and hot, Wil does it PERFECTLY!

Another scene that’s great, Vork and the Matron, is one of the first scenes I wrote for the season. There’s a strange civility between the two of them that is kinda awesome. PLUS the Riley Zaboo scene is soooo crazy! Many thanks to John, the volunteer BTS/SFX guy, who made it look like that was a real paintball hit: He rigged that up with a baggie and some kind of air gun, haha. When I first wrote this scene Zaboo proposed to Riley, but I thought it was a bit much and throttled it back to reality, making it a commitment ring. I figured Riley’s character might dump him if he got too serious at this point in their relationship.

All in all, a turning point! I see a lot of people commenting that they want the Knights to start fighting back, well, wait til next week!

  • Ken

Codex’ feeble attempts to block Tink on the basketball court has to be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Zaboo’s romantic picnic turning into the Most Dangerous Game has to be the second. Thanks!!!

BTW Saw Michele Boyd in “Machines of Malice” on DiscoveryCanada last Sunday. She’s a freakin’ Neurobiologist!! A Mathematician and a Neurobiologist, how cool is this webseries!!!

  • Wildride

The wheels on the bus go round and round!

And, remember that the longer you push it on empty, the more time you’re using fuel to move your car and not just to carry around a lot of extra fuel.

Anyway, I also like the “Codex can’t be out in the sun” aspect of the character, especially trying to block freckles with her hands.

  • My stupid 360 is still out for repair will have to watch another episode on my computer. I just wrote a blog about the incredible piece of xbox junk. I wonder how many original 360 owners still have the first machine they bought. Especially if you bought it during the first few months.

I shall now watch the episode so that I can feel bett er about my life. No that does not smack of desperation.

  • Love it! Codex has some mad skillz on the basketball court. Reminds me of the time they made me play basketball in middle school gym without telling me any of the rules.

  • I seriously need to download all the episodes to my brother’s xbox but don’t want to crowd his xbox with my stuff. hopefully, i get a new one soon! until then, youtube…

LOVED your work on Dr. Horrible!

  • Dani

The gas line + the “Run in a Z, sweetie!” are now in my list of most awesome Guild lines ever. I actually laughed out loud with the “Run in a Z” and also with the Codex jumping in front of Tink scene. And now that you said “I got to do some of those crazy moves I usually reserve for the DDR pad” it makes it even more funny! =P

    Great episode as always!

And the Gag Reel is made of win! How cute is baby Blake and… uhm… I don’t know the name f the baby girl… anyway, they are sooo cute jumping on the sofa!

  • Mike D.

So it wasn’t a paintball? I was wondering how many welts Sandeep had after that scene. Even with pads, they hurt up close.

The “Roget’s run amok” intro was great, but I gotta agree with everyone else: “Run in a Z, sweetie” is probably one of the best lines this season — especially after the heartwarming troll ring exchange.

This week’s installment totally made my morning. (Well, this, coffee and a brownie.) Waiting for some payback next week!

  • Scott

This whole ep is awesome, and I’m glad you mentioned the basketball thing because that scene was absolute genius. I like the physical comedy too — I laughed out loud when Riley dropped the duffel bag and it went CLANG! Clearly not full of sandwiches.

In an episode with snappy writing and great delivery in every scene, Vork’s “penis envy” line was brilliance! The DVD should have a special feature where we see what else he’s got in that notebook, besides Freud and odd phrases in Spanish. 😛

Excited for the rest of Season 3!

  • Kartel/Jonathan

I bet Zaboo’s girlfriend could come up with a great revenge plan.

  • This episode was made of win, for the first time I felt I was seeing Codex fully on display (away from the game and her webcam) — and just how very socially awkward she is — with Wade you could write it off as sexual tension — same with Fawkes and even Zaboo, but with Tink the dynamic just totally showed her struggling with her self consciousness that everyone seems to be aware of but her (gee that sounds familiar!!) Poor girl!! But at the same time, so funny! Right now she seems to have “mousey victim” written all over her — but with that moment of standing up to Riley — there has to be more of that coming, I hope.

Like the others I am eager to see the Knights of Good STICK IT to the Axis. 🙂

    Chris + Jossy

  • Yeah, Codex on the court is so lame but +10 for effort! And Tink’s mocking of her complexion is so funny and cruel at the same time (I am covered in freckles, so I know the pain!).

You have really put us through the mill this season with the highs and lows then more lows for the Knights of Good, so I can’t wait to see next weeks. Oh – and the gag reel is awesome too!

  • For some reason the Embed code on Ep 8 on this site is wrong, but on MSN it’s right. Not sure why.

  • tonewaugh

Wonderfully funny episode, great physical comedy and fun with words.

My favorite specific moment is actually the “pfft” Codex aims at her wayward hair at the end of the vlog. I imagine this was scripted, as Codex usually wears a hair clip, but if it was improvised it must have totally cracked up the set.

I’d been waiting for the basketball scene with Tink since we saw a preview of it in the S3 trailer. I didn’t think of it till you pointed it out, but we have indeed seen those DDR moves before :). Please put that YouTube award/DDR video, or part of it, on the S3 DVD as an Easter Egg! It’s so fun.

    Other highlights of the episode:

    – Zaboo’s saliva-enhanced hairstyling.
    – Zaboo’s buttoned-up shirt.
    – Zaboo falling twice when running away in the grass. (Is he channeling Penny’s double-stumble? Some things are always funnier in pairs.)

And the Matron’s line and delivery to Vork: “…asking me about penis?!” In the singular, and without the word “envy,” it just serves as this funny abstract noun. Like “chicken.” Slight differences like this can make the entire difference between intelligent humor and something more common or crass.

Looking forward now to the revenge of the Knights.

  • Loved where Vork hits another bin! Also the scene on the basketball court was hilarious.

  • That was another fantastic episode! Vork gets funnier each episode, I still laugh when I think of the guy using his leaf blower on Vork in the previous episode and I laughed in anticipation of his knocking over another bin as he pulls out of the driveway in this one. Codex’s line about taking the risk of going outside cracked me up and for some reason reminded me of Cartman’s line in the episode Make Love not Warcraft, “You can just hang outside in the sun all day tossing a ball around, or you can sit at your computer and do something that matters!” True man, so true 🙂

  • I feel tremendous woe over this episode – not for any content, because it was hilarious and rife with the kind of quick banter I wish I could rattle off instantaneously. No, my woe is due to the inevitable countdown…only 4 episodes left of this season. I feel the separation anxiety already. *sniff*

  • Bill

I am still laughing over the ‘natural redhead daring to go out in the sun’. I feel your pain. redheads unite! 😉

  • Jose de Segadas Vianna Neto

Yeah, the sun is my enemy too……lol
And the leader of the rival guild, he looks someone whos still live with his parents, someone who doesnt have to work, pay bills or anything of the sort.
Maybe Codex will discover that he is really a poseur, with all that attitude.
Maybe the oriental dude in his guild even hacks the server, to makes them look like the number one guild.

Keep up with the amazing work!!!!

  • Nokomys

Codex playing basketball = Epic laughs. Keep up the great work!!

  • liebs19

I just found out about this show last week fro a co-worker and I am so glad he pointed me in this direction. I watched all 3 seasons this week (I am on vacation, so the timing could not have worked out better) and I agree that the basketball scene was my favorite Codex moment. Keep up the good work.

  • Kelly

So shippers, should it be Highdex? or Codelander?

  • liebs19

BTW, would you say your real life basketball skills are better, the sames as, or worse than Codex’s? 🙂

  • Chris

I had a strange thought about the real life situations of the two guilds as compared to their in game styles.
Knights of Good – extremely chaotic real lives (Codex unemployed, Vork living on deceased father’s wellfare checks and stealing wifi, Bladezz teenage years, etc) but lawful goodish types.
Axis of Anarchy – police officer, art teacher, call center operator (?) (in other words, fairly structured and rules oriented) but acting very chaotic about, in and around the game.

  • Chris

I think Fawkes must have a similar “rules oriented” life. Lawyer? Librarian? Clergy?

  • You’re such an amazing talent, Felicia, really. Thank you for sharing that with us. 🙂

  • tonewaugh

(I botched and lost my first try at posting this (Stupid User Error); my second try seemed to work but the post never showed up, yet when I tried again I was been warned that it was a duplicate post. Sigh. So I’m trying again. If a duplicate post ever shows up, my apologies!)

Thanks too for the funny gag reel.

  • Ooh ooh, my friend got you to sign one of your pictures to me at Dragon*Con and put it in the post to me, I just received it today. So cool (and how awesome is my friend??!) and thank you!

  • Hmm, that’s very interesting, I never thought about that!!! Maybe I’m subliminally saying that people with unstructured lives and more control over their time are better adjusted? Deep’d! HA!

    • len

Third order system: they choose their choice of choices. They can play the game before they play it without practicing it, aka, improv.

The Axis can be meaner but if they step outside their rules, they automatically punish each other. It’s the difference in being in Phish and Michael Jackson’s backup band.

Cyd is awkward because of lack of practice and that shows in the violin, but she can fix that. Tink has issues. 😉

Back to the countdown. Ares is on the pad and the weather is taking over.

  • Uh, I would say the acting is not far from the tree. har

  • Patti

Thank you for such a funny (and sometimes too frighteningly realistic) show. This last episode…I feel like a dirty old woman for thinking Wil Wheaton is that hot. I can’t wait for Codex to finally hit that point where she takes down the Axis of Anarchy! I bet that once she lets go, she could do it with one hand tied behind Zaboo’s back.

  • Well I picked the wrong picture, but my impressions partially match the location. ,

  • Woooooo!

  • Lenny

    DAN TAN TAN!!! ROFLMAO

  • Alyssa

Was that.. San Marino High School? MY EVIL CROSS TOWN RIVALS!? 😉

  • Patrick

    “Run in a Z, sweetie!” I love it. 🙂

  • Jag

    Really funny Ep.

    God I love Zaboo’s girlfriend. 😀
I sure hope Blade, Vork and all the guildies start fighting back!

Oh and the reel was pure genius.

    1-Top of the ine when I was a kid…but
    2-Fail at catching the controller!
3-The almost kiss from Codex and Riley! OMG!

  • Tim

Wonderful series! I first heard about The Guild from Penny Arcade but I managed to forget to click on it until my father – WoW patriarch and guild leader extraordinaire – called me up and told me I needed to check it out. 🙂 Watching the show now just makes me miss my own guildies, we’re a big family too 😛

  • Az

    Honorable Felicia,

I am a fan, of course you get that alot… you are an outstanding actress. but who is the real you. You are attractive and funny in front of every camera, since everyone in the family plays WOW, we are all fans of the guild (I am secretly in love with Codex) although all our toons are on Thunderlord in the Naked Squirrels guild (have you ever seen one with cloths?). Good luck to you and may all of your adventures be exciting and happy ones.

I will apologize in advance for passing out if we ever meet in person 🙂 You are the hottest funniest woman on the web!!

    Az.

  • Burny

Hey felicia, I know you must get this a lot, but I love your show and I hope you’re gonna make much more of these. You’ve got a great concept and the work you do with it is close to perfect. I work as a video game tester and I talk about your work to most of my friends. (I was kind of pissed off when i realized that some of my friends knew about your show and never told me about it…grrr).

I asked all my friends an family to buy me dr. horrible and the first 2 season of the guild for my birthday/xmas. this way i’ll be able to get a copy for myself and i will give the other copy i get as gifts for other ppl….just spreading the love.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Jose de Segadas Vianna Neto

I just saw ep. 11 and let me say something: It was almost a western….
The stares and the provocations; but the funniest thing was Vork speaking Korean.

That i didnt see it coming.

Mr Wiggly killing the korean guy with a low-level spell that nobody uses, that was hilarious.

Now, poor Codex, having to battle with 2 at the same time.
I hope Tink decides to help her and in the end, let herself to be killed.

There is life without the Knights of Good???? lol 🙂

    Keep up the great work.
