Of your list there's only one I recognise by sight, and that's Ruby, although to be honest it's one of my less favourite Kaiser Chiefs tracks. I knew there was something I'd forgotten to do in 2007 - listen to music! Well, I have been to a couple of live shows, I just haven't listened to (or bought) many CDs. I'm liking The Hoosiers when I hear them, though.

I'm one of those people who will listen to whatever someone else is listening to, because I'm too lazy to search for stuff I like. Mostly I just listen to my girlfriend's music when her headphones are too loud. Currently we listen to a lot of Pennywise, Horrorpops, and Mindless Self Indulgence, J. Coulton (the guy who did the Portal song), plus any kind of death metal you can think of.

We try to support the local punk/rockabilly scene by going to shows (Nekromantix, Tiger Army, Midnight Howlers), but in all honesty I'm a musical square. Give me any music, from any time, and I can pretty much jam out to it. Even Celine Dion.

"Make You Cry" by Jonathan Coulton. I'm entertained by most of his songs, but there's something diabolically entertaining about a song that plays like a folksy love ballad with lyrics that are so vindictive and cruel.

"Cells" by The Servant. Touches on the monotony of being a cog in the machine - had me with the line telling his girl to go to bed while he stays up clearing another level on of whatever game he's playing.

"Dear Prudence" by The Beatles. Grew up listening to the Beatles, but only recently started venturing into tunes my parents didn't expose me to. I blame the film "Across the Universe" for exposing me to this one.

"Battle Without Honor or Humanity" by Tomoyasu Hotei. If it sounds incredibly familiar, it's because it's been sampled and used in everything from video games to last year's "Transformers" movie.

"Chaiyya Chaiyya" the Punjabi MC remix. I don't know what they're saying or why, but I likes it. I likes it lots.

"Theme from Amelie" by Yann Tiersen. Forgot about this one until a buddy from Paris got me the soundtrack - and admonished me that Paris isn't really like that. Doesn't matter, Seattle isn't really like it's portrayed in that Hanks/Ryan picture, but it's still fun.

Songs at the top of my iTunes most-played list this year:

1. "Yellow Cake" by Rasputina. Oh Perilous World, the album this track comes from, is an amazing soundtrack to a Broadway musical from a parallel world, where electric cellos are the instrument of choice.

2. "Ghost Riders in the Sky" by Concrete Blonde. Their cover of this song is wonderfully world-weary.

3. Tie between "Deep Red Bells" and "Hold on, hold on" by Neko Case. Case has one of the most remarkable voices in music today: powerful, unstrained and clear as a bell. On quieter songs, it has a Patsy Cline-ish quality.

4. Another tie between "Still Waters" and "Borrowed Wings" by Jim White. I've never been a fan of country music, but I like country when its kinda spooky (as in the above Neko Case and Concrete Blonde selections). Jim White's music often achieves that eerie, haunting quality. And speaking of spooky country:

5. "Arlene" by The Handsome Family. Hearing this murder ballad played live made me seek out and purchase everything The Handsome Family has done. For a great song with more of a rock vibe, check out "All the Time in Airports" on their latest album.

6. "The Moon" by Cat Power. I played this haunting song (do you detect a pattern here?) so many times that my girlfriend finally forbade my playing it for at least a month. The month is up and it's back at the top of the playlist.

7. "When I was Down" by The Muffs. Their songs are so catchy. They stay in my head for days and days.

8. "The Darker Days of Me and Him" (iTunes Originals Version) by PJ Harvey. This recording is only available at the iTunes Store. It has a quality that's missing on the studio version and I can't quite put my finger on what that is.

9. "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" by The Buzzcocks. I loved the Singles Going Steady album in my youth, and hearing this song on the Sean of the Dead soundtrack reminded me of how much I missed it.

10. "Spider-Man" by The Ramones. The Ramones absolutely rock the balls off this classic theme song. "She Talks to Rainbows" gets equal play on my iTunes list.

And because this list goes to eleven:

11. "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes. RAWK!
