Dragon Age: Redemption Episode 4

Episode 4!  We are nearing the end (and my favorite episodes which are 5&6, hehe) but this is a big turning point in the series because the traditional “Dragon Age” party has now been formed!  Four characters:  Mage, Rogue, Tank and DPS Warrior.  Well balanced, right?  (Except Josmael is a level 1 mage, erg).

I love the introduction of Nyree, Marcia Battiste is an AMAZING actress, she was absolutely who I pictured in this role when I wrote it.  I actually combed through hundreds of submissions and her headshot caught my eye outside the list that was actually scheduled.  I’m so INCREDIBLY meticulous about casting, i really feel like it’s never an actor who is bad in a piece, most of it is the casting.  Our casting director Helen Geier (from The Guild too) has a wonderful eye and is able to cull from HUNDREDS of submissions great choices to see for each role.  As a writer/producer, you can hear a dozen actors read the same script, and some will make you want to retire from embarrassment, and some will make you want to accept your award during your audition because you feel like you’re so brilliant, haha.  Same lines out of different actors’ mouth can mean night and day.

Some people have mentioned the accents of the characters a few times, especially Dragon Age fans. To me it was UBER important for the human characters to have British accents like in the game.  The Qunari in the game have always had neutral American-ish accents, and as far as I knew (before DAII was actually released) the Dalish had American accents too, from Origins.  They changed that after we knew better to Welsh, but finding Welsh actors would have been impossible anyway in LA so it worked out fine. 🙂

The cave scene is darker on YouTube than we actually have on the master files, we’re looking into why those scenes got darkened so much, it might be because of the YouTube upload.  So that’s just a technical thing we’re looking into just FYI.  The acting however, with me getting Nyree into the group, I just loved that twist.  I love how Saarebas screwed her over, and then the gold I stole from the Dalish in ep2 gets her on board.  It really pleases me, that story thread.

The inn is MY FAVORITE set in the whole piece.  OMG when @gregaronowitz showed me the designs (which you can see step by step on his blog now!) I was so geeked out.  Seriously, acting in a RPG inn in REAL LIFE has to be one of my top 10 dreams come true.  And having Tallis’ big backstory monologue was something I almost cut out, but it actually ties in REALLY nicely to the DLC piece of content you can play with my character.  In this and the DLC you really get the full flavor of Tallis (and for DA fans the easter egg that Nyree worked with Cassandra!  #highfive).

I can’t wait for you guys to see the beginning of next episode, you’re gonna flip!

So much fun! Can’t wait for more. Thanks Felicia!

Felicia Day, is it weird that your my dream girl and my role model?

I watched the episode at Machinima’s channel before I saw this post, and I just love how you think. And yeah, Marcia Battiste kills it in this episode!

And who did stunts for the production? Cause I totally noticed Lucy Romberg, the chick with the double swords in the inn, and I’m really anxious to see the next episode.

Now that I think about it, is that an easter egg at the end of your post? 🙂

  • Jens

    Enjoying this a lot.

I really like Nyree although I sometimes found it hard to understand what she said during the first part (English is not my first language). Looking forward to the subtitles, but maybe Dani has problems understanding it as well :p

Is there any plans to compile the episodes into one video and then post it on YouTube like it was done for the RCVR series? Preferably without the text bit between each episode if possible 🙂

I stumbled across this blog looking for more info on Dragon Age Redemption, and I’m really glad I did because these insights into the making of the episodes are really interesting. So, just wanted to say thanks for posting them (and, you know, helping to bring them to life), and can’t wait for the next episode!

  • I’m curious to know your other nine top 10 dreams …

    • Day Watcher

Agreed… well… actually I would like to know 8 of them anyways, always nice to keep something a mystery. :p

      ~Day Watcher~

PS. Nice episode, I like how the series is turning out… makes me almost sad there are only too more episodes.

I am not going to stop this: Felicia Day, please write a movie screenplay. Thank you.:)

  • constantfacepalm

(it is just so frustrating to suffer through big budget movies with terrible dialogues and constantly recalling great scenes from The Guild and DA: Redemption. Be merciful, give up some game time please, and write a screenplay. Or create a TV show, please. I could live with that too :D)

  • Pretty badass. It’s great to see the contrast of an actor (actress in this case), doing a different role. In the guild you are relatively reserved geek, now you’re some bad ass – sword wielding ‘elf’.

You do a great job, I hope you can do more of these small web series.

    Quality flirting skills

I’ve really enjoyed the series and can’t wait to see how it ends. I remember running into the YouTube darkening thing before. I uploaded a low-lighted video and it turned out a lot darker once I uploaded it. Could it be compression or conversions somehow? I don’t know for sure. But, for what it’s worth, it could totally just be YouTube.

I’m looking forward to your next project(s).

Saw you on Talking Dead with Chris Hardwicke. Were you watching the show highlights through your fingers? C’Mon Tallis! 🙂

  • Amber Dawn

I’ve been really enjoying DA:Redemption. (I just started playing the games recently so it’s a really neat parallel. Still on Origins.) good story, good acting, and killer gorgeous costumes and sets. Everything just looks SO AWESOME.

Hey, I love your shows. My friends from this small yet old MMO called DarkAges told me about ‘The Guild’. Apparently our guild leader got our name and guild emblem from your show. Knights of Good, stand for all things good so on and so forth. I would like to see you make a Full Fledged TV series or a kick ass movie. Oh and by the way, I’d love to meet a sexy redheaded gamer girl like you, so rare to find! I just wanted to give you props for you work. Very enthused to see what you work on after this, keep us informed!

::PS:: My guild leader is our version of Vork except hes not so uptight and schedule based. Very nice guy and very easy to like. He can be rather demanding of our guild-mates, but that is understandable. Every guild needs a strong and confident leader and I am proud to follow him to depths of any dungeon.

I know next to nothing about cinematography, but the scene at the table might be my favorite so far in terms of how it’s shot.

The true-to-game size of that warhammer looks funny. In a good way.

  • This article is an article well read, I have benefited a variety of fields.’,’This article is very interesting, I like it. I will always come to visit after.I would recommend to friends more
