I started the series last week based on your recommendation and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm almost done with the last one.

I have to disagree with you on one thing: Tam is way hotter! He screams sexy all over. I feel like there is way more sexual tension between those two than with Mychael. Don't get me wrong Mychael is good looking in my minds eye but Tam just screams danger Will Robinson danger.

Thanks again for the recommendation I'll check out your goodreads for more. I been starving for too long and the only cure for my starvation is more books or cow bell! :)

For her birthday, I gifted a set of books, the Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop (they're not bad), to the fantasy-loving RPG'er in our gaming group a year or two ago. In return, she gifted me a set of books by Jaqueline Carey, the Kushiel series. I enjoyed the alternate fantasy reality and decidedly "romance novel" feel of the books very much.

Also quite good was the set of books - four so far - by a local-to-me author, Maria V. Snyder, starting with Poison Study. I warned my brother upon loaning him the first that he would not be able to stop reading them until he finished. Sure enough, he couldn't put it down. They're very compelling.

The Kushiel and Study series are available on the Kindle, but not the Black Jewels. I've read those last few there myself.

Speaking only of science fiction, I've been reading everything by Vernor Vinge I can find. Sadly, there's not a lot. Some of the short stories are pretty good, though. Yes, I'm also a Kindle junkie. :)

Dammit--every time I read your blog I end up adding to my already overburdened wishlist. But I forgive you because you're providing a valuable public service (wading through the dreck on our behalf and sharing the good stuff). Cheers :)

I likewise enjoyed the first book more than the second and third, but I often find that's the case with trilogies. I especially enjoy the first encounter with a new world--particularly one as imaginative as that of the Mistborn books--and it's difficult to replicate that feeling in subsequent books. With longer running series, like the Dresden Files, the book-by-book expansion of an over-arching plot often really draws me in.

I'm pleased that he's going to be the one who's finishing the Wheel of Time. It might be sacrilegious, but I have a feeling that I'll enjoy his books more than many of the ones that Jordan wrote.

I did read Elantris and liked it quite a lot--I'm hoping that he revisits the world in subsequent books, I seem to remember that the ending left the door open to that.

On your recommendation, I just finished three available books in the Raine Benares series and thought they were great! Thanks for the tip!
