New Year

So, the end of the year is looming large, and I’ve decided I need to come up with an organized goals list for this year.  Last year was really good for me because I was part of a little support group of women, from which good things sprung, like The Guild! :)   For the last few months however, my organization and discipline has waned, as has my general contentedness level.  I think the two are very much linked.  When I actually checked off my “Vitamin” and “Exercise” and “10 min of Creative Writing” from my Remember The Milk online to-do list every day, I felt so much better about myself, in control of my life and not under the control of my whims.  Jan 1 is a good day to revisit all that, I think.

I recently stumbled across Day Zero: 101 things to do in 1001 days and I think this might be my template.  A little part of me shudders to think I’m actually thinking of planning 2 1/2 years in advance! :O  But the other part of me feels like the whole drifting through life thing is getting old, and a small plan for my life might not be a bad idea.  So, before Jan 1 I will be posting my list on this blog and will be updating on my progress!   If anyone else does this, please link them here and I’ll figure out a way to link them on the blog somewhere.  The more support the better! :)

But gosh, 101 things is a lot.  Guess that’s #1 on my interum list!  I know for a fact that writing a fantasy novel will be one of the big items on my list.  I’ve been toying around with trying to substitute an hour of video gaming with an hour of bad novel writing on the weekends, so I’ve been doing some brainstorming and referencing books I like to try to turn the process into a relaxing hobby rather than a “make the best novel ever written!” ultimatum:  How I usually approach stuff.   I just started this musing on Saturday, and then JenWriter, writer of a blog I love to read, just sent me a link to this fab list of writing/creative inspiration links yesterday – 101 OF THEM!  OMG CAN THE COINCIDENCES BE ANY STRONGER IN FAVOR OF THE LIST!?!?!

Brandon Sanderson To Finish WoT!!!!!!!

The Book Swede & His Blog: Brandon Sanderson To Finish WoT!!!!!!!

I came home to this article plastered all over my handy duty RSS Fantasy list of at least 20 fantasy blogs.  Very exciting news!  I believe I wrote about Sanderson’s “Mistborn” last month, how I enjoyed it, but I believed the characters could have been a little fuller drawn, especially the secondary ones.  But for some reason, this feels like a really good fit for Jordan’s voice to me.  I feel like Sanderson’s prose is very similar in style,  and there’s something about the way he handles dialogue that makes me think that Jordan’s book is in good hands.   Call it a gut feeling.  I would love to hear from others who have read both authors, see what they think.

Personally, I’m in the thick of panic for Christmas gifts.  I panicked when I was looking at some website and it said “15 days to Christmas!”  The last week has been taken up by a little Guild Christmas Carol we filmed on a lark, hopefully we’ll post it tomorrow or Wednesday, so now I’m JUST gearing up with brainstorm lists of gifts, and it’s making me whine a lot because I’ve got to get these suckers SENT and I’m pretty sure my 18 year old cousins don’t want a donation to WWF and a little stuffed Panda for Christmas :)

Anyway, that’s my assignment for the rest of the week, gifts and doing end of the year estimates for taxes.  Joy.   The good thing is that I started my week out in a really fun way, I took an all day Final Cut class at UCLA extension today!  Man, the nerd in me is purring!  I loved it!  We went over all the basics, as well as cheesy iris transitions, crazy filters, swirling subtitles, I think I’m addicted!  Since everyone is holidaying, my goal over the holiday is to shoot one of the sketches I did while I was in the sketch company at ACME and have fun editing it, because now that I have the know-how, I need to practice to keep learning and reinforce.   I need to do my acting reel too, although the thought of staring at my own face for hours isn’t that appealing.  Maybe I need to work on the narcissism a bit. :)

Fox March Done!

Fun was had by all at the rally this morning. Near 500 people were there! It was a huge turnout, and testament to the great love Joss Whedon engenders in his fans (and his actors and writers too, so many of them were there!) It was really inspiring, and generally, the fans had much more energy than the typical writers at the picket line. There was more “whooping” to honking cars than I’ve heard in a while :) I got a cool “Potential” pin from the button lady (that’s what people call her!) and met quite a few interesting people, including Flog reader Paul! Hi Paul! Walking in circles is much easier when you’re chatting with people you haven’t seen in years, or meeting new people for the first time. I’ll have to draft more people to come march with me :)

Here’s proof I was there, care of actor Tom Lenk, who’s photography blows me away. And not just because he makes me look good :) Thanks Tommy! XOXOXOFelicia At Rally!

Edit: Here are a few others from Flikr ppl have been linking me.
