I’m an Idiot

Against my better judgment, I’m going to share something that makes me look like an idiot.

I love Method products. I love the packaging, I like the colors, I’ll pay three extra dollars for a curvy bottle of dishwashing soap. I’m a chump. But, at the end of the day, if it makes me happier to buy a pretty product to clean my toilet with, I will.

Imagine my delight when I saw they were offering body soap several months back. About 5, to be exact. The reason I’m specific is relevant to the story, I promise.

So, I start sniffing the array of products.

Hmm, wow, that white one sure smelled the best, AND it matched my beautiful clawfoot tub, my crazy indulgence when we renovated our house. How terribly attractive that would look in the storage tray that sits over the bathtub. How artful. So, I bought the white bloq. That was when the trouble began.

The five months go by and I quickly noticed that this soap was really…not good. Every time I used it, I was like, “Wow, this stuff will not wash off!” It felt kind of waxy on my skin, and thick. Like conditioner. But, whatever. It was pretty, and despite the dissatisfaction with the quality of it, I just figured that Method knew what they were doing. Maybe it was extra moisturizing, and who was I to complain? I would even look at the back of the bottle at the ingredients while I was using it. Not carefully, but I would look, wondering the whole time at the sub-parness of my Method experience. Nothing suspicious crossed my eye.

So, last night I was in the tub again, and used the bloq. Same thought passed my mind, “Wow, this stuff is crappy, it won’t rinse off.” Something made me read the front again, I FINALLY look at the packaging closer than normal for some reason, and see this:

Do you see what might have drawn my eye?!  DO YOU SEE WHAT, TO A NORMAL HUMAN, WOULD BE READILY APPARENT?!?!

That’s right.  I’ve been washing myself with body lotion for about 5 months.   How I didn’t see this before…with all the clues…I’m supposed to be a smart person.  The dawning realization of my utter humiliation registered after I read the words “body lotion” about 20 times.   I started laughing hysterically at myself.  Then I got a little depressed.  Alzheimer’s anyone?

In my defense, if you examine the packaging, the lotion and the wash are identical packaging.  Except where the written text clearly identifies the different uses.  And the fact that, when I used it, it FELT like I was using body lotion as soap.  Let the ridicule commence. :)

PS: I want to establish here that I had alternate soaps and don’t use the tub nightly, so my hygiene was never in question.  My mind, but not my hygiene.

Zelda marathon observation

I really settled in to be a wastrel today.  I had to take a break to write a little stream of consciousness post after several hours of playing Twilight Princess.   I have cheeto dust all over my jeans and three bottles of empty cream soda strewn about the couch area, more empty bags of chips on the floor, on the chair cushions.  I had my top pants button undone, for maximum gluttonous room and I microwaved my dinner.   Sad but fun.   I’ll do something productive tomorrow, I promise.

I really like Zelda, but why can’t my character be civilized and just look inside the clay vases and not smash them?  I feel like a vandal.  I really miss the Ultima days where you could see a chest of drawers and you could open them, and stuff was in them.  That you could steal.  When did it become acceptable to have a placeholder chest of drawers?  Isn’t that going backwards in role playing game evolution?  That’s what always irritated me about WOW.    I always wanted to claim one of those Ironforge houses and make it a Guild way-station, have some flowers on the table, mead in the cupboard, guildie only access.  No can do.  What MMORPG has that kind of detail now?

I think if video game companies had more women on their staff, those kind of details would be #1 on the list.  Like, say, being able to change your hair style, and more face customization.   Character customization is really important to me when I play games, and I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to have flowing red hair out of my helmet for Hellgate.  I am reserving judgment until I actually get to play.

I actually pre-ordered it today.  Eagerly anticipating a beta key in my email.  I’m actually obsessively checking it too much.  I bought from GoGamer for the wasp armour, definitely the sleekest colors IMO.

Oh ya, watched Bionic Woman last night, I’m a little on the fence.  There’s something very cold about it, although I do like the lead girl, I think she’s great.  The special effects were very cool, as were the fight sequences.  Definitely will be checking out a few more episodes.

Ok, back to Wii.  I should be going out tonight, but…I’m too lazy. :)

More New Shows…TV has become homework!

So, last night in my 5th hour of TV, I wished that the networks would be a little less “all at once” about their new shows and space them out so people could actually watch and appreciate them. At this rate, if I don’t watch 6 hours of TV a night, my Tivo is going to get so backlogged that I’ll be slogging through it for weeks. Not to mention I insisted that I wanted to watch The War with my boyfriend, because I never sit through educational stuff. It’s 14 hours long. Help.
Ok, so in order now, the shows that I saw last night.

1) Heroes

I gotta watch this on Mondays because I’m so behind the curve by Wednesday! So, establish this was my favorite show last year, with the Office, and I have to say this premiere felt a little disjointed to me. I finally got what they were trying to set up by the end of the episode, but I don’t think you should have to spend 40 minutes going, “But I though…” and “That doesn’t make sense from the finale…” Anyway despite my skepticism, the new cast was surprisingly good. I love that they added Dania to the cast. Some Buffy people may remember her as a potential from the last season. She didn’t have a lot to do on-screen then, but we were all a tight-knit group that last 4 months of shooting, and I knew Dania was going to be big, she had a “star quality” about her that you know when you see it. Suffice it to say I think her character is gonna be cool! I actually found myself liking Claire’s storyline too, although really she needs to lay off the weird orange tan. Anyway, Peter showing up at the end was a given but still was cool to watch. And then…Amnesia?! Cornballll. I’m sure they’ll do something good with it, but overall I’m just hoping things get a little more focused after all the new people are established.

And as a general comment, I really don’t like the previews being whole season overviews on all the shows, it ruins surprises, like Sylar coming back. Even if you know it was gonna happen, it’s nicer to be wowed by it, than it being given away in a 30 second promo.

Onwardser and briefer…

2) Private Practice.

Ugh. This was a one timer for me. I’m not a Grey’s fan so maybe I was missing something, but when every plotline having to do with a wellness clinic results in an ambulance or police being called, you can’t have that much faith in the quality of medical care, can you? Also, why would a world-class neonatal surgeon go back to OBGYN work? Specialtists don’t backtrack like that for no reason, they go into huge debt to get their specialties and…

OK, it’s TV. Everyone looked pretty. Taye Diggs is still hot. Moving on.

3) Reaper

Now we’re talking. Objectively, probably my favorite show I’ve seen so far. Self-deprecating humor, really good acting, I really was excited about seeing more. Damn, they shoot in Canada so I’ll never work on it :) I just really appreciated an hour-long show sustaining the level of comedy that you don’t even see in half-hours nowadays. Of course, this show was the THIRD or FOURTH show this season with the requisite scene between disaffected slacker big-box employee and imperious and self-important manager-type of said big-box store, but aside from that I really liked the characters and wanted to see more. #1 on my Tivo list.

4 ) Dirty Sexy Money

I wanted to hate this show. I read the script last pilot season and hated it. Well…I was wrong. I eat thorough crow. This show is so well cast and acted, it has a sense of fun underneath it that I never expected. All the characters are played teetering on the edge of making fun of themselves, but always having a grounded sense of reality. It’s really hard to do, and the wrong actors/director could have taken this into OC territory. Thank goodness that didn’t happen. It’s fun, and I usually don’t watch this sort of thing. I don’t know if I will watch the whole season, but I will definitely give it a few more tries.

5) Back to You

Er, is sitcom really dead? Sad face. This show I will watch because I am fiercely loyal to this format and the two leads are amazing at what they do. I can’t say I was laughing out loud at anything, but it hit all the required notes and I want to give it a chance. If it fails then there will be a continued spiral of networks not ordering comedies because they’re “dead”. How about ordering original out of the box comedies? Nah. That’s CRAZY TALK.

Ok, I’m tired just from reading all that TV I watched. Now…I have 4 hours of The War backed up. Shoot me now.

Best Prank Ever

This picture made me laugh so hard…

MIT pranksters headed over to the neighboring campus of Harvard University and decorated Harvard Yard’s legendary statue of founder John Harvard to look like a Halo Master Chief. Article here. Makes me wish I could have gone to MIT :)
